A Message from Principal Daliposki
Dear PS 199 Families,
As we approach May, we are excited to embrace the warmer weather and the energy that spring brings to our school community! The final months of the school year are always busy, filled with important milestones, celebrations, and accomplishments.
State Exams
Looking ahead, students in grades 3–5 will take the New York State English Language Arts (ELA) Exam on April 29 and 30. These assessments are an opportunity for students to demonstrate their growth and learning. We encourage all students to get plenty of rest the night before and arrive to school on time each day, ready to do their best.
After-School Clubs
A reminder that all After-School Clubs will end for the year in mid-May. We are so grateful to our teachers, staff, and partners who have provided these wonderful opportunities for enrichment throughout the year.
Thank You to Our PTA!
A heartfelt thank you to our amazing PTA for co-hosting our Potluck Dinner Spring Festival! It was wonderful to see so many families come together to celebrate, share delicious food, and enjoy a night of community and fun. We are so lucky to have such dedicated partners supporting our school.
As always, we thank you for your partnership and support. Let’s make these last few months memorable and successful for all our students!
On May 1, 2025, we’re excited to invite families to join us for one of two sessions focused on “Getting Ready for Next Year.” These sessions will offer helpful information about what to expect in the upcoming school year, ways to support your child over the summer, and how to ensure a smooth transition. Details and links will be posted on your child’s Google Classroom page as the date approaches. In addition, 5th grade families are invited to attend a special session hosted by IS 125 on May 8, 2025, to help prepare for the transition to middle school. We encourage all families to attend these important events.
As always, thank you for your continued support and partnership. Let’s finish the year strong—together!

Building Bold Futures at Every Age
Dear Families and Colleagues,
At New York City Public Schools, our job is to prepare our children for bold futures. We recently made two major announcements that will help ensure our students—from the earliest years through high school—are prepared for rewarding careers and empowered to become leaders in their communities.
First, the Adams administration has committed $167 million in annual funding for early childhood education, including 3-K classes and pre-K special education, which means these programs will be sustained for years to come. We’re also reaffirming our support for Head Start programs for our youngest learners. As a working mother myself, I know just how critical early childhood education is—both for our children and their families.
And second, we are expanding our signature NYC Reads and NYC Solves initiatives to additional schools, including bringing NYC Reads to middle schools for the first time! This expansion will ensure that our reading and math instruction and curricula align to the latest research on how kids learn; our Highlight Video below shares more.
Together, these announcements are game changers for New York City students and families. I am confident they will have a lasting impact—shaping bold futures for our children and strengthening the city we call home.
In partnership,
Melissa Aviles-Ramos
Chancellor
