Hadley Special Olympics Team
Congratulations to six Hadley student athletes who participated and brought home 14 medals! Best wishes to the students who will be going on to compete in the State Special Olympics competition in June. Way to go Hadley student athletes Lucy O., Tucker G., Milan V., Jamari J., Morgan D., and Muaaz S.! Thank you to the Hadley Special Olympics coaches Michelle Niforatos, Kate Metzel, Katie Falco, Kelly Miotti, Maria Vichio, Karen Puckett, and Lindsay Montgomery (Glenbard West). All were celebrated at the Board of Education meeting on Monday, May 19.
8th Grade Students Inspired by Nike Ambassador
Hadley students were inspired by a presentation by guest speaker Tim Blake who has worked with Nike for 13 years as a soccer sales manager, brand ambassador, and Ekin. Mr. Blake, who also played soccer for DePaul and Butler University, spoke to 8th graders about the importance of hard work and how treating people with kindness is always impactful. He reiterated our school-wide "finish strong" message and helped students to see their own potential.
Hadley Spring Orchestra Concert with Glenbard West
On Thursday, May 8, the Hadley Orchestra Department presented their Annual Spring Orchestra Concert. The 6th grade orchestra along with the 7/8 Grade Hadley String Orchestra performed a selection of classical, contemporary, jazz and rock pieces for an exciting evening. Special guest soloist Superintendent Dr. Jeff McHugh performed the triangle with the 6th grade orchestra. Dr. Jeff McHugh, along with Assistant Superintendent for Human Resources Dr. David Bruno, were both very entertaining and brought much laughter to our audience members and to our students performing.
Glenbard West Orchestra, led by orchestra director, Mr. William Ortega, conducted and prepared students for this collaborative performance with our Hadley orchestra students. Professional guest artists performed with the student musicians as well. Ms. Hannah Novak (bass), Mr. Jeff Handley (drum set), Mrs. Tina Laughlin (percussion), & Mr. Steven Serra (guitar) assisted the orchestra students in rehearsal and performing at the concert.
“Thank you to all who helped and encouraged our musicians. A special thank you to Mr. Bill Ortega, Glenbard West’s Orchestra Director, and his students who brought our community together with their talented performance,” said Hadley Orchestra Director Georgia Alemis. “We are deeply appreciative of The DuPage Foundation for their most generous donation to our Hadley Jr. High School music program and for sponsoring these professional musicians. It was an unforgettable evening of fantastic music and great audience participation! This program would not be possible without the dedication of our Hadley parents and orchestra students for all of their hard work and support. Congratulations to all of the orchestra students for their wonderful performances!”

Learn to Play Mahjong for a Cause with GECRC
The Glen Ellyn Children's Resource Center is thrilled to announce their new and exciting fundraiser - "Learn to Play Mahjong for a Cause!" If you are not familiar, mahjong is a Chinese tile-based game, typically played by four people, where players draw and discard tiles to create winning combinations. This game is rapidly increasing in popularity, and GECRC is thrilled to bring two 36-person beginner learning sessions taught by Missy Mahjong to the Glen Oak Country Club Paddle Hut on Wednesday, June 18.
The first session is from 1-4pm (doors open at 12:30) and the second is from 6-9pm (doors open at 5:30). Round up some friends and purchase a ticket today by CLICKING HERE for one of the sessions.
Tickets are $80 and include instruction, supplies, light bites and two drinks. Proceeds support the GECRC summer program. Spaces are limited, so be sure to reserve your spot soon!
