Message from the Chief of Police: e-Safety

Katy ISD Police, along with local law enforcement, have seen an increase in accidents and injuries involving electric motorcycles, dirt bikes, minibikes, pocket bikes, ATVs, go-karts and other high-powered motorized vehicles operated by children and teens. Many of these vehicles are not designed or legally authorized for student transportation to and from school.

It's important to understand that these vehicles are different from traditional bicycles, standing electric scooters and electric bicycles (e-bikes). Under Texas law, e-bikes have fully operable pedals and meet specific speed requirements, while high-powered electric motorcycles and similar vehicles are subject to different laws and may require registration, insurance and a driver's license.

To help keep students and staff safe, Katy ISD permits traditional bicycles, standing electric scooters, and Texas law-compliant e-bikes on campuses, provided they are operated safely and responsibly.

Annual Student Update - Needs to be completed Annual Student Update - Needs to be completed

Students will not be allowed to attend any off campus field trips without this completed.

August 3, 2026

Dear Katy ISD Parents/Guardians and Staff,

As a reminder, registration for new students has reopened for all grade levels.

Registration for Katy ISD’s comprehensive new, flexible Legacy Virtual High School (LVHS) is currently open. Visit the LVHS Webpage to learn more about the LVHS course catalog, AP credit classes, graduation plan endorsements and more.

Parents can register new students by visiting the Katy ISD Registration webpage or by clicking the Online Registration icon found on the District’s home page. Once on the registration webpage, parents can access the online registration form in English or Spanish.

The Annual Student Enrollment Update for returning students began last week. Parents and guardians of returning students would have received an email containing a SnapCode and instructions to update their student’s information for the 2026 – 2027 school year. If your student is returning to Katy ISD, please wait to receive this email before attempting to complete the enrollment update. Emails were sent in batches throughout last week. If you have not yet received the Annual Student Enrollment Update email for your student, please reach out to the corresponding registration email address found on the District’s Enrollment Questions webpage.

VOLUNTEERS at the Beginning of the Year! VOLUNTEERS at the Beginning of the Year!

Do you want to be a Volunteer??

Katy ISD requires all volunteers serving on or off-campus during or after the instructional day to register with the district through its Raptor security system.

Katy ISD’s Raptor safety protocol will require volunteers to register (or re-register) annually, thus creating a new volunteer profile each year.

The District's Raptor Volunteer Initiative provides an additional layer of protection for our Katy ISD students, staff, volunteers, and visitors, prioritizing the safety and security of our entire Katy ISD family.

Once registered and approved, individual volunteers can submit and track hours via their volunteer profile for every Katy ISD campus at which they volunteer. The system also provides quick and easy submission of individual off-campus volunteer hours.

Car Rider Updates

Parents, as we complete Day 2, we are making some important changes to our arrival and dismissal procedures beginning tomorrow morning to help improve safety and traffic flow.

For the safety of our students, staff, crossing guards, and drivers, the car rider entrance will only accept vehicles approaching from the EAST side of Elyson Blvd. headed Westbound.

We have experienced vehicles waiting in areas that block the entrance and exit used by our buses and daycare vehicles. This creates congestion and an unsafe environment for our walkers and crossing guards.

We will provide pictures showing the side of Elyson Blvd. where vehicles may NOT line up or wait for morning drop-off or afternoon pick-up.

IMPORTANT CAR RIDER REMINDERS

Once you enter the car rider line, PLEASE DO NOT CROSS LANES. Stay in the lane you entered and follow the traffic pattern all the way through the car rider line. Crossing lanes creates an unsafe situation and slows down the flow of traffic.

We also ask that parents PLEASE DO NOT GET OUT OF YOUR VEHICLE while in the car rider line. We are working to move the line as quickly and safely as possible.

If you need additional time to adjust straps, buckle your child, organize belongings, or take care of anything else that requires you to get out of your vehicle, please pull into the front parking lot rather than stopping in the car rider line. This will help prevent the flow of traffic from being stopped.

Please follow the updated traffic pattern and the directions of our staff and crossing guards. We know the first few days require adjustments, and we greatly appreciate your patience, cooperation, and partnership as we work together to make arrival and dismissal safe and efficient for everyone—especially our students.
