Title I Information
Dunlap CUSD #323 receives Federal Title I, Part A Funds to help ALL students meet challenging state academic standards. Title I Funds are alloted to school districts based on what is called a "poverty indicator" and in Dunlap CUSD #323's case, we utilize Free or Reduced Lunch recipients in order to receive our allotment.
Regardless of whether or not your child(ren) receive free or reduced lunch, ANY student with an identified need to receive an intervention is eligible for services purchased with Title I, Part A Funds. In our district, Dunlap High School is considered "Targeted Assistance" wherein Title I, Part A Funds can be used for only those students identified as needing academic or social-emotional learning support. The services provided would be above and beyond what the district provides for all elementary buildings by means of the Board-approved curriculum and support systems.
Multi-tiered Systems of Support, or "MTSS" refers to the systems in place to help a student who may or may not be meeting academic needs and has specific "skill deficits" that require extra attention and reinforcement in a small-group setting. While "Tier-1" is considered the general curriculum offerent within a grade level and the differentation teachers give students on a day-to-day basis, Tiers 2 and 3 are for those students who need additional support in one or more areas, specifically in subjects of reading, mathematics, and social-emotional learning. Performance on Star Reading and Star Math is our "universal screener" to help teachers and administrators understand if there may be the potential for a student to receive additional help. Additional data is reviewed to ensure students receive the appropriate support.
Dunlap Grade, Ridgeview Elementary, Wilder-Waite Grade, and Dunlap Valley Middle Schools are "Schoolwide Support" buildings wherein Title I Funds can be used to supplement the academic and social-emotional learning curriculum and district-provided materials as identified through "needs assessments" that guage, based on multiple data points, where additional support is needed.
Dunlap CUSD #323 believes that the partnership between schools and families is crucial in order for all students to achieve success. The Department of Education, the Federal Agency that oversees and disburses the Funds, requires school districts to hold annual parent engagement meetings to look over the Parent and Family Engagement Policy and to sign the "Title I Parent Compact."
As an initial measure to engage families and gather feedback, we are hosting initial Title I Informational Meetings virtually to get stakeholder feedback on the Parent Engagement Policy and Title I Program Offerings through this Google Form. We appreciate your time and feedback as we continue to work to offer the best learning environments for our students. Additional Family Engagement Nights will be announced through the upcoming school year.
Currently, the Dunlap CUSD #323 Title I Director is Matt Andrews (Assistant Superintendent), mandrews@dunlapcusd.net. If you have any Title-I specific questions that don't relate to the services your student receives at his/her home building, please feel free to reach out to Matt with any questions.
New Jammer In December
Starting with the December lunch menu, there will be a new jammer that will be offered. It is a larger size so it will no longer come with a cheese stick.
School Day
Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday - 7:39 am - 2:45 pm
Wednesday - 7:39 am - 2:15 pm
Students can be dropped off starting at 7:25. Students arriving after 7:39 will be marked as tardy. All tardies are considered unexcused unless the student is arriving late due to a medical/dental appointment.
Attendance
On time attendance is important and necessary for learning. If your child will be absent due to an appointment or is ill, please notify the office by 8:00 am each day.
You can call the office or email your absence to: Mrs. Kamin lkamin@dunlapcusd.net and Mrs. Sullivan msullivan@dunlapcusd.net.
As a reminder, if your student is going to be gone for travel or other planned absences, make up work will not be given prior to the absence.
Recess
Please make sure your child is prepared and dressed appropriately for outside recess. Students will go outside for recess anytime the temperature is 15 degrees or above (including wind chill). It is always a good idea to have your child bring an extra set of clothes for them to change into, in case of a fall outside into mud, water, or snow. They can leave them in their backpack or locker.
Parents cannot request that students stay inside based solely on the temperature. It is important for the students to get outside and play when possible during the winter months.
Any child who is exempt from physical education for medical reasons will not be allowed to participate in outdoor recess activities. Re-injury on the playground could occur. Arrangements for indoor recess in the main office or a supervised classroom will be made.
Birthday Treats
To promote a positive, safe, and healthy lifestyle and classroom learning community; birthday celebrations at school will not include treats or favors from home. Teachers will choose to celebrate students in their classroom in grade and age appropriate ways.
School Medication Authorization Form
Please remember we must have a School Medication Authorization Form signed by your doctor's office for ALL medications (even over the counter meds like Tylenol, cough drops, etc.).
Required Health Forms
All kindergarteners and students new to the state of Illinois are required to have a dental, eye exam, physical and updated immunizations on file in our office.
All second grade students are required to have an updated dental form on file in the office.
Please be sure to turn these health forms into the office by Oct. 15.
DGS Staff Favorite Things
DGS has the most dedicated and caring staff. There have been many requests for information on how to treat the staff. Click here to access the DGS Staff Favorite Things.
Visitors and Volunteers
We are excited to welcome parent volunteers into our school! Some grade levels and/or teachers use parent volunteers on a regular basis while others may only occasionally need your help. Parents volunteering on a regular basis (including field trips) must complete the background check before starting. Additional information on procedures for parent volunteers is available in the elementary handbook. Please note that one time visitors, guest readers, party coordinators, etc... do not need to complete the background check as they will be directly supervised by the teachers while in the building.
Volunteer Process
1. Go to https://www.dunlapcusd.net/employment
2. Click on "Job Openings"
3. Select "Volunteer" on the left hand side.
4. Complete the application for volunteering.
5. After you submit the application, you will be emailed a form from the district office. You must print this form and take it to Accurate Biometrics to be fingerprinted.
A Note from the President
November Meeting
Our next meeting will be on Monday, November 3rd, at 7 PM in the DGS Café. Please note that the meeting is on Monday, and not our regular Tuesday due to the Election!
We had an excellent turnout for our September & October meetings; it was great to see both familiar and new faces! We hope you can join us again!
Thanks,
Annalee Huntington
DGS Parents Club President
Staff Appreciation
Thank you to all the DGS families that have donated goods &/or money to help us provide meals for the SIP ½ day and Parent-Teacher Conferences. We have received very positive feedback and gratitude for the meals.
We have another SIP ½ day that we will be providing lunch on Friday, November 14th. Keep an eye out for the Sign-Up Genius to see how you can help show our teachers & staff how much we appreciate them. The Sign Up will be posted on the DGS Facebook page as well as our new Parents Club website on the “Volunteer Opportunities” tab.
So, thanks for helping us support the amazing DGS Teachers and Staff! We couldn’t do it without you!
Royal Fun Run Wrap Up
The Fall 2025 Fall Royal Fun Run was a success and a lot of fun! We had amazing weather and just an overall great day! Thank you to everyone that helped us surpass our fundraising goal of $6000! But most importantly, the kids had a great time running the course. Special thanks to the Dunlap Community Fire Protection District for participating in our obstacle course again! We love having them be a part of the Royal Fun Run!
It is so rewarding to see students try new challenges! Overall, we raised $6455 (108% of our goal)! Students that raised money through on-line donations on average raised $77.37 per student.
Because we used FundHub to raise money through on-line donations, we were able to bring in 195 donations from 15 different states & 2 countries!
The Fun Run Committee (& my husband) want to thank all the volunteers who helped make the Fun Run so much FUN! Jeff was especially thankful for the set-up crew that got up early and worked in the morning darkness to help set-up the course. The first gym period begins right after school starts, and since we can’t leave the obstacles up overnight, there is a lot of work to be done in a short amount of time & in the dark for the Fall event.
We are also thankful that we had enough volunteers to cover all the obstacles through all 6 gym periods. And finally, we are thankful to all the volunteers that stuck around to help us tear everything down. You made the work go so much faster and smoother. The committee can plan everything, but without help from volunteers we wouldn’t be able to put on such a great event. We are so appreciative of everyone’s support!
Please note that we won’t have another Royal Fun Run until the Spring of 2027!
Carnival
Believe it or not, the Carnival Planning Committee is already planning and working on the 2026 carnival. Mark your calendars because you won’t want to miss it! The carnival will be on Saturday February 28, 2026, from 3-6 pm. Our carnival is our biggest fundraiser that the Parents Club sponsors each year with all profits going back to the school for designated projects. If you are interested in helping us plan this years’ carnival events, please send us an email at: dunlapparentsclub@gmail.com
Working on this committee is a great way to meet a lot of other parents, it’s fun, and it’s really rewarding when the event all comes together!
Parents Club Website
Just a reminder that you can find all of the active PC Sign-Up Genius links, and other important PC information on the DGS Parents Club website. We work hard to keep it up to date, in hopes that it will be a great resource to DGS parents.
Book Fair Wrap Up
The Fall Book Fair was a Royal success. The PC Book Fair Committee did a great job planning and hosting the event! Thanks to all the Royal Families that sent in coins for the Coin War. All those individual coins added up, and we raised a lot of money to purchase books for Mrs. Rychener’s Birthday Bookshelf. She is so well stocked with books for kids in all grades and reading levels, that the PC might have to buy her another bookshelf!
Thank you to everyone who came out to the Book Fair and purchased books! Your support allows the Parents Club to get books into the hands of so many Royals!
Caterpillar Donations And Volunteer Service Matches
Is there a Caterpillar employee in your household? Giving Tuesday and hopefully the Caterpillar 2:1 Match will be here before we know it. So, make sure that you record and submit any charitable donations &/or volunteer hours that you make to the DGS Parents Club.
The DGS Parents Club charity can be found by searching with the following text: “Parent Booster USA” and then selecting the item with the DGS address (301 S. First St.)
You can find the Cat Charitable Match & Cat Volunteer Service Match websites by clicking on the images below.
The Caterpillar Volunteer Service Match is a great way your volunteer hours can be turned into money for the DGS Parents Club.
Donuts With Dudes Wrap Up
Donuts with Dudes was a major success! Many donuts were eaten and our Royals enjoyed the special time with their Dudes. Thank you to those that helped plan, set up, serve, and tear down! We can’t put on events like this without your support!
Dunlap Community Resource Directory
We are pleased to share the updated Dunlap Community Resource Directory.pdf —a comprehensive directory of services and supports available to our students, families, and community members. Updated in September 2025, this guide provides quick access to a wide range of local resources to help meet social, emotional, and practical needs.
Inside the guide you’ll find information on:
Counseling & Mental Health Services – Local providers, online supports, crisis hotlines, and bereavement groups.
Substance Abuse and Recovery Resources – Treatment centers, support groups, and helplines.
Special Education Resources – Agencies and programs supporting children and adults with disabilities.
Healthcare Services – Medical, dental, vision, and hearing care, including clinics accepting Medicaid.
Housing & Food Assistance – Rental aid, emergency shelters, food pantries, and prepared meal services.
Clothing, Household, and Financial Support – Locations for clothing, school supplies, utility assistance, and more.
Tutoring, Childcare, and Camps – Academic supports, preschool and childcare options, and summer programs.
The guide is designed to connect families with trusted resources quickly and conveniently. While the district does not endorse any specific agency, this directory serves as a valuable starting point for finding help when needed.
You can access the updated Dunlap Community Resource Guide here
Whereas we tried to be as comprehensive as possible, if you know of a resource that should be included in future editions, or if you notice information that needs updating, please contact Mandy Ellis at mellis@dunlapcusd.net.
Thank you for partnering with us to support the well-being of our students and the entire Dunlap community.
