Tiger Talk
02/24/26

Good evening, Tiger Families,
There is so much happening at West Cypress Hills, and our students continue to grow, lead, and shine in incredible ways. We are truly grateful for the strong partnership we share with each of you.
This week’s newsletter is packed with important updates, upcoming events, and key reminders. Please take a few moments to read it thoroughly so you don’t miss any important information.
I am especially looking forward to seeing many of our 1st grade families this Friday for the First Grade Plays! Our students have been working so hard and are excited to perform. Please be sure to RSVP in advance so your name tag is ready and waiting for you when you arrive.
I also want to share an important community safety reminder. Liberty Civil Construction, the contractor overseeing the Reimers-Peacock Road Development Project that will provide access to Highland Lakes High School, has reported that teenagers have recently been riding dirt bikes within the active construction zone. Although the area is clearly marked with “No Trespassing” signage, individuals have entered the site despite these restrictions.
Active construction zones present serious safety hazards, including heavy equipment, large vehicles, uneven terrain, and ongoing roadway work. Entering the site for any reason creates a significant risk of injury. We ask that families please speak with their children about the importance of staying out of the construction area. For everyone’s safety, riding or entering the site is strictly prohibited.
Thank you for your continued partnership in keeping our students and community safe.
Lastly, for those of you that have completed our parent survey (32 completions), thank you. I would love it if we could get to 75% completed by our parents. Please take the time to take our survey below you will find the link. Again this helps us to know what we are doing well and where we need to improve here at WCHE!
With appreciation,
Amy 💜🧡

Hello WCHE Families! Here are some updates from our counseling program!
Classroom Counseling Lessons
This month in our classroom counseling lessons, Tigers have been talking about kindness and empathy. I have been blown away by our students' knowledge about what those 2 words mean, and even more blown away by how our students show kindness and empathy at school every day. WCHE is such a special place because of our awesome Tigers!!
5th Grade Transition to Middle School
From March 2 through March 6, families will be able to view their student’s middle school course selections in Skyward. During this time, you will be asked to complete a verification form confirming that your student’s course selections are accurate.
If you and your student would like to request any changes, a Course Change Request Google Form will be available starting March 2.
Please note that both Skyward access and the Change Request Form will close at 4:00 PM on March 6. We encourage you to review your student’s courses early to ensure everything is exactly how you all would like it.
Please feel free to reach out to me if you have any questions or concerns about this: lohrbergb@ltisdschools.org. Thank you all! Go Tigers!
Ms. Russ took a pie in the face to support Tiger attendance.

Attention LTISD Parents and Guardians,
The Discovery Program, otherwise known as Gifted and Talented, is now accepting parent referrals for KINDERGARTEN G/T Screening via this Google form.
The Elementary Discovery Program is a cross-curricular thematic-based pullout program for students in grades K-5. Participating students will demonstrate skills in self-directed learning, thinking, research, and communication as evidenced by the development of innovative products and performances that reflect individuality and creativity and are advanced in relation to students of similar age, experience, or environment. To be identified as gifted and talented, each student must undergo a screening and selection process. Assessment opportunities are made available once per school year.
If you feel your child is a good candidate for the G/T screening process, please fill out the link below. The deadline to register is March 12 at 3 pm. More information about the program can be found on the Lake Travis ISD Gifted & Talented website.
Referral link for Kinder students only - deadline March 12, 2026 @ 3:00 PM.

School Library Advisory Council
In response to Senate Bill 13, our Board of Trustees has established the Lake Travis ISD School Library Advisory Council (SLAC.) The purpose of the SLAC is to formalize a collaborative process between librarians, parents, and community members in the ongoing development of strong library collections that support student achievement and meet state standards. This process helps ensure transparency, parent involvement, and a strong library program that strengthens student achievement while nurturing a lifelong appreciation, habit, and love of reading.
The SLAC works with librarians and district staff to develop a recommended list of library materials for procurement, including donated titles. At least 30 days before the Board’s vote, the proposed procurement list will be made publicly available for parents and community members to review and provide feedback. The Board will review these recommendations, consider any proposed changes, and make the final decision to approve or reject the materials. The SLAC will also recommend procedures for handling challenges to library materials and review challenges according to law before making recommendations to the Board.
Visit the SLAC webpage to access the Proposed Titles for Library Procurement List, Proposed Titles for Library Procurement List Feedback Form, and the Library Materials Challenge Form.
For questions or additional information regarding SLAC reviews or library material challenges, please contact Tasha Barker at watersbarkert@ltisdschools.org, or at 512-533-6036.
