Fremont Elementary School
SEPTEMBER 5, 2025
A Message From Mrs. Carmody
Dear Fremont Families,
Fall weather is in full swing, and we are enjoying the crisp mornings and vibrant colors that this season brings. It’s a wonderful time of year for learning both inside and outside the classroom!
Our students have been hard at work, exploring new concepts, building skills, and supporting one another in a positive, engaging environment. We are proud of their efforts and the curiosity they bring to every lesson.
Last week, I had the opportunity to attend The Reading League Conference in Chicago. One important takeaway I want to share with families is the power of daily, intentional reading and conversations about books at home. Even just 10–15 minutes a day of reading aloud or discussing stories with your child can have a significant impact on their literacy development, vocabulary, and love of learning.
Please join us for our Parent University: Parents' Guide to Understanding and Responding to Emotional Escalations. April 22 at 6:30 p.m. at the Middle School. Please see below for more information. Babysitting is provided if you sign up in advance!
On Monday, October 20, we will be conducting a bus evacuation drill for students who are parent pick-up or Right at School only. Students will practice safely exiting the bus and then return to the gym and cafeteria for regular end-of-day procedures. This is a quick safety exercise to help ensure all students know what to do in case of a bus emergency.
As the weather cools, please remind your children to dress appropriately for outdoor recess and activities. Layered clothing is often best to ensure students stay comfortable throughout the day.
Thank you for your continued partnership in supporting our Fremont learners. Your engagement makes a real difference in helping students thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.
Sincerely,
Beth Carmody
Principal
Our kindergarteners had a great time on their field trip to Country Bumpkin! They explored the pumpkin patch, visited the farm animals, and even tried their luck at the Gold Rush to pan for treasure. It was a perfect mix of learning, adventure, and autumn fun!

Fall into the Routine

October is a great time to check in and reinforce good habits around sleep, morning prep, and arriving on time. Let’s keep the momentum going—while still being mindful to stay home when truly sick.
Mundelein Impact Fee Ordinance costs FSD79 taxpayers nearly $500,000
FSD79 and Mundelein High School District 120 recently sent a joint letter to Village of Mundelein Mayor and Board of Trustees, expressing concerns about the Village’s impact fee ordinance that was adopted this past April.
The new ordinance has led to a critically inadequate offer from Pulte for its Walnut Ridge development, which will result in approximately 140 new K-12 students. The resulting impact fee proposal reveals a massive disparity from other recent developments, including Pulte’s 2020 agreement for Sheldon Woods.
Per-Home Impact Fees (4-bedroom home)
Hawthorn Woods Country Club: $10,286
Mundelein Sheldon Woods (Pulte): $6,150
Proposed Mundelein Walnut Ridge (Pulte): $2,898
You are welcome to join us at the Village of Mundelein hearing at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, October 27, 2025, at Village Hall to advocate for a revised impact fee agreement before approvals take place.
Hearing and Vision Screening Information
Beginning October 20, 2025, Fremont Elementary students will be screened for hearing and/or vision by a Fremont District 79 certified screener. Vision screening is not a substitute for a complete eye and vision evaluation by an eye doctor. Your child is not required to undergo this vision screening if an optometrist or ophthalmologist has completed and signed a report form indicating that an examination has been administered within the previous 12 months.
Kindergarteners who have submitted the required state vision form will only be screened for hearing. Those who have not submitted the vision form will also be screened for vision. First graders will be screened for hearing only. Second graders will be screened for hearing and vision. Students receiving special education services and students new to the district in all grades will be screened for hearing and vision. If your child is not scheduled to be screened we will be glad to screen them for hearing and/or vision upon your request
If a child does not pass the first screening, they will be rescreened two weeks later. If they do not pass the second screening, a letter will be sent to the parents/guardians notifying them that their child will need further evaluation.
The parent or legal guardian of a student may object to hearing and/or vision screening tests for their child on religious grounds. If you object, please notify me at 847-837-0437 ext. 2002 or contact your child’s teacher.
