MES Weekly Scoop
It's A Great Day to Be A Bulldog! Bulldogs Don't Quit!
Principal's Note
A Wonderful First Week Back!
Dear MES Families-
What a great first week at Marysville Elementary! It was so exciting to see our hallways filled with students again. I loved watching students reconnect with friends, meet their teachers, explore their new classrooms, and begin settling back into the routines of school. There is truly something special about the energy that students bring to our building, and we are so happy to have our Bulldogs back!
As we head into our second week, one of our instructional focuses will be our FastBridge Fall Universal Screener. FastBridge is an assessment tool that helps us get a snapshot of how each student is progressing in important areas of reading and math. These assessments are not about giving students a grade; instead, they provide valuable information that helps teachers understand what students already know, where they may need additional support, and how we can best tailor instruction and intervention to meet individual needs.
Our reading interventionists, Megan Zierlein and Tiffany Heyd, will be working closely with teachers to review student data and help identify students who may benefit from additional reading or math support. This information, along with classroom performance and teacher observations, helps us make thoughtful instructional decisions throughout the year.
Families can support their students at home in simple but meaningful ways. Read together, talk about what you are reading, practice basic math facts, encourage your child to explain their thinking, and make learning part of your everyday routines. Most importantly, remind your child that assessments are simply a way for us to learn more about how they are growing. Encourage them to do their best, take their time, and show what they know!
Thank you for your continued partnership and for maintaining strong school-to-home communication. When families and schools work together, our students benefit. And, as always, please help us by making sure your child continually shows up to school. Every day matters, and we truly love having your children here with us!
It is going to be a great year at MES.

26-27 MARYSVILLE ELEMENTARY STUDENT/PARENT HANDBOOK
26-27 MES Parent Handbook
Our Parent Handbook is an important resource that outlines the expectations, policies, and procedures for the school year. It includes information about academics, attendance, behavior expectations, communication, and ways families can stay engaged in their child’s learning.
We ask that families review the handbook prior to the first day of school so that everyone is familiar with our school guidelines. Please continue to reference it throughout the year whenever questions arise. Working together, we can ensure a safe, supportive, and successful school experience for every child.

New Kansas Cell Phone Law & Two Way Communication
House Bill 2299 (2026) – Kansas law requires every public school district to prohibit personal electronic devices that can make calls, send texts, or access the internet from being worn or carried by K‑12 students during the instructional day. The infographic below shows how this impacts students at Marysville Elementary School.

CharacterStrong – Week 2: Kindness Kickoff
Kindness means acting with understanding, generosity, and care. There are many ways to show others you care. If a family member is feeling sad, you could show them Kindness by giving them a hug (if they like hugs). If a new student looks lonely, you can be Kind by including them at recess or lunch. Show Kindness to at least 1 person today!
