Morton Ranch Elementary

Dear families,
We would like to remind all of our Maverick families that breakfast and lunch are always free!
Mavericks may be dropped off at the cafeteria beginning at 7:30 to eat breakfast. Students are monitored by staff and are released to class at 7:50. Thank you for helping our Mavericks kick off their mornings with a strong breakfast and timely arrival!
REMINDERS FOR PARENTS/GUARDIANS
Same day changes must be submitted before or by 2:00 pm.
You may choose to notify the teacher of changes of transportation.
However, you MUST notify the front office following the directions on the flyer below.
This option is to facilitate changes in case of last minute needs.
Children thrive on routines and systems put into place for them to follow daily.
Creating too many changes can be confusing for any child.
Please consider this when making changes of transportation.
**REMINDER** Morton Ranch Elementary does not have an alternate weather dismissal plan. It is the parent's responsibility to watch the weather forecast, decide if a change of transportation is necessary, and submit a change in a timely manner by or before 2:00 p.m.
If you have any questions, please call the front office 281-234-0300.

STATE OF TEXAS ASSESSMENTS OF ACADEMIC READINESS
The State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR®) is a standardized academic achievement test designed to measure the extent to which a student has learned and is able to apply the defined knowledge and skills in the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) at each tested grade, subject, and course. Every STAAR question is directly aligned to the TEKS currently in effect for the grade and subject or course being assessed.
STAAR helps to ensure that Texas students are competitive with other students both nationally and internationally. Another important function of STAAR is gauging how well schools and teachers prepare their students academically. In addition, STAAR fulfills the requirements of the federal Every Student Succeeds Act, which requires that all students be assessed in specific grades and subjects throughout their academic careers.
STAAR is an online assessment in mathematics, reading language arts (RLA), science, and social studies for students in grades 3–8 and high school and online tests in Spanish for students in grades 3–5.
Who is tested?
All students enrolled in Texas public schools and open-enrollment charter schools in grades 3–8 and specific high school courses are required by both federal and state law to participate in STAAR.
Click the calendar below to view dates where MRE will be a "closed campus."
All testing will occur during our normal school day.
To protect the integrity of the testing environment, Morton Ranch Elementary will be a closed campus (to outside visitors) on days when the STAAR test is being administered.
The calendar below identifies the days where MRE will be closed to lunch visitors, classroom readers, volunteers, etc.

This event is specifically for families of children who will be starting kindergarten next school year.
It’s a wonderful opportunity for our future kinder students to get a feel for their new school environment, make a few friends, and begin to build excitement for their upcoming kindergarten year.
At the orientation, we’ll share important information about the kindergarten experience, school policies, and how you can support your child during this transition.
