Character Strong

Our District-Wide Social-Emotional program, Character Strong, is an evidence-based, multi-tiered solution designed to support whole child success. This program is integrated into Advisory classes, helping build a sense of community while developing essential life skills.

The aim of education is to prepare young people for success in all areas of life, including academic growth, college and career readiness, and overall life satisfaction. To achieve these goals, Character Strong focuses on three foundational outcomes:

A Sense of Belonging: Fostering an environment where every student feels valued and connected.

Improved Well-Being: Enhancing students' emotional health and resilience.

Increased Engagement: Encouraging active participation and investment in their learning and growth. By addressing these key areas, Character Strong helps lay the groundwork for students' long-term success and fulfillment.

Portrait of a Graduate

Knoxville CUSD 202 is proud to be leading the way in bringing 21st-century learning to life for all students. Together with our staff, students, and community, we are shaping a Portrait of a Graduate—a shared vision that reflects our collective hopes and aspirations for every learner.

This short video highlights our journey so far.

This year, educators are intentionally weaving the six durable skills from our Portrait into daily instruction. This work aligns with our Character Strong focus, supporting students in developing the knowledge, skills, and character needed to thrive both in and out of school. By practicing and strengthening these durable skills, our students are building the tools they need to succeed beyond graduation and in everyday life.

"Bee Kind" 100s Board Challenge

As part of our Kindness Kickoff for Character Strong, we’re introducing a fun incentive to help encourage and recognize acts of kindness. Staff members nominate students for "Bee-ing" Kind. The nominated student becomes the "I" in "Kind," has their picture taken, and is recognized for their acts of kindness. The nominated students will also draw a number 1-100 and write their name on the corresponding number in the 100s chart. Once we fill a row (horizontally or vertically) those students in the full row will get to take part in an additional celebration!

September Purposefull People Award: Respect

Congratulations to our Character of the Month winners for showing outstanding Respect! These students have consistently demonstrated what it means to see the good in others and treat everyone with care and kindness. Whether it's lending a helping hand, listening thoughtfully, or showing appreciation for differences, they set a shining example for all of us. We're proud to recognize their efforts in making our school a more respectful and positive place for everyone. Keep up the great work, and thank you for leading the way in showing respect!

October Character Strong Focus:Responsibility

This month we are talking about Responsibility. One way to define Responsibility is “taking action and understanding the impact of our choices.” Taking action can mean doing the right thing or completing the tasks you have been assigned. Understanding the impact of our choices means that our actions matter. Positive and responsible actions can help people and irresponsible actions can hurt others.

Character Strong in Action!

Mrs. Luptak's First Graders Learn About Respect

Mrs. Luptak’s class recently completed a Character Strong lesson focused on respect. Students explored how their words and actions can affect others in positive or negative ways, especially in friendships. Students saw how kind words help keep hearts whole while unkind actions can leave “creases,” showing how respect is essential for strong, caring friendships!

Menus

EXTRA MILK

For students that bring a lunch from home and would like to purchase a milk, parents will need to add money to their child's lunch account. Milk is $0.50 for those purchasing it separately or if wanting a second milk. You can add money to your child's lunch account by visiting this website: LINQ Connect or sending money in an envelope to school. Please be sure to mark the envelope with your child's first and last name and grade if you are sending cash or check.

Regular lunch and breakfast still remain free for students at MWES and KJHS this school year.

We truly appreciate your willingness to step up and lend a helping hand. Your continued support means the world to us, and we are grateful for the positive impact you're making in our school community. Thank you!
