The Sheiko Weekly Update
Sheiko Elementary: September 26, 2025
PRINCIPAL UPDATE
Dear Sheiko Families,
We had such a great week of learning! The FunD Run was absolutely AMAZING, and thanks to your support, we reached our school-wide goal of $25,000! We will celebrate with a school assembly on October 8th where we’ll announce all of our school winners. At this assembly, we’ll also recognize students who were “Caught Being Good” with a focus on September’s Capturing Kids’ Hearts word of the month—empathy—and introduce October’s word—self-direction.
To keep the celebration going, our teachers will be competing in an inflatable race on October 16th, and students will get to cheer them on—it’s going to be so much fun!
On a different note, one of our goals from the spring stakeholder survey was to strengthen communication about your child’s academic progress. Please take a moment to log in to PowerSchool to view your child’s progress report. This report serves as their report card-in-progress, with selected standards marked to help you see how things are going. You should also be receiving feedback on at least one assignment per week from your child’s teacher—this could be a writing piece with feedback or a math test with an actual score. If you ever have questions about your child’s academic or disciplinary record, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me at blaine.mcdowell@wbsd.org. We want to partner with you every step of the way in your child’s learning journey.
Wishing you a wonderful weekend!
Goooooooooooo Lakers!
In Partnership, Blaine McDowell

- To create an account, be prepared to provide your student’s first and last name, as well as student ID number available in Powerschool. https://westbloomfield.powerschool.com/
If you have forgotten to fill out the nutrition benefits application, you can do so by clicking here: https://westbloomfield.familyportal.cloud/ and selecting the button labeled Apply for Benefits.

ATTENDANCE
It is important to us to partner with you for your student’s success, and one element of that is ensuring we communicate regarding student attendance. We believe in the value of every student in every class, every day, as we know you do as well. Regular attendance is necessary, and the time lost from absences is very difficult to make up. Working together, we can ensure your student gets the most from their education. We want to ensure that you are aware of the following attendance codes and outcomes:
We always welcome parents/guardians to drop off lunch for their student. However, we will not accept food deliveries for students from vendors. This is a safety issue. If food is delivered from a vendor, your student can pick it up from the office at the end of the school day.
Thank you.
