CrusaderFamily News January 6, 2026

Carver Crusader Families,

Happy New Year! I hope you had the opportunity to relax and enjoy time with family and friends during the holiday season. January represents a time for new beginnings and positive change. A perfect time to reflect, refocus, and look ahead with purpose.

In my daily morning Words of Wisdom, I shared with students that this is a traditional time of year for making New Year’s resolutions. When we make resolutions, we set goals for the coming year. Goals give our lives direction. They help us determine where we are going and how we will get there. I encouraged students to create a roadmap for their future by writing down their goals and reminded them: “Climb high. Climb far. Your goal the sky. Your aim the stars.”

At Carver Middle High School, the Carver Crusader faculty, staff, and administration are committed to supporting our students as they work toward achieving their goals. It is truly a privilege to serve this community, and I am grateful for your continued partnership and support.

Please don’t hesitate to reach out at any time.

We are excited to share that throughout the month of January, we will be training all senior

students to become certified in CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation), AED (Automated

External Defibrillator) use, basic First Aid and Narcan.

This certification program is part of our ongoing commitment to equipping students with

essential life-saving skills that can make a critical difference in emergency situations. The

training will be conducted by certified instructors and will include both hands-on practice and

classroom instruction, ensuring students gain the confidence and competence to respond

effectively in real-life scenarios.

We are proud to highlight our partnerships with Carver Cares, Carver EMS, and our

Health and Wellness Pathway. These collaborations, along with our internship program,

provide students with unique opportunities to connect classroom learning to real-world

experiences. By working alongside dedicated professionals and community organizations, our

seniors will not only gain certification but also deepen their understanding of health, safety, and

service. This valuable credential not only enhances their personal preparedness but also

strengthens their resumes and college or job applications. We are excited about the impact these

partnerships will have in preparing students to be confident, compassionate, and career-ready

leaders in both their communities and future endeavors.

Upon successful completion of the course, students will receive official certification, which is

valid for two years and recognized nationwide.

NWEA MAP Growth Testing for Middle School Students

Our middle school students completed the MAP® Growth™ test from NWEA® in the fall. Students in grades 6 & 7 will take the second winter assessment on January 8th and 9th. Students in grade 8 will take the next assessment on January 12th and 15th.

MAP Growth scores help teachers check student progress by measuring achievement and growth. Teachers use results to tailor classroom lessons and set goals for students.

MAP Growth tests are unique, and it adapts to your child’s responses to measure your child’s skill level. If your child answers a question correctly, the next question is more challenging. If they answer incorrectly, the next one is easier. These results will provide a more complete picture of what your child knows and is ready to learn—whether it is on, above, or below their grade level. Each test (reading and math) takes about an hour. Since MAP Growth tests provide immediate and accurate information about your child’s learning, it’s easy for teachers to identify students with similar scores that are generally ready for instruction in similar skills and topics, and then plan instruction accordingly. For more information about MAP Growth, visit NWEA.org/familytoolkit.
