Hello Falcon Families,

Thank you again for attending our Back to School Night event last week! I enjoyed putting faces to the names of so many folks I’ve been emailing with. As I shared that evening, one of our goals this year is to increase family engagement. Two ways we are working toward this goal are by: (1) strengthening our communication methods and (2) increasing opportunities for families to participate on campus. In alignment with these goals, we are bringing back the Smore and sharing a few volunteer opportunities for families to get involved on campus. You can sign up for these opportunities through this link. Sign-ups for these opportunities will close this Friday, September 4th.

Thank you for partnering with us as we continue to build a strong and connected Oak Valley community!

A note from your assistant principals Dr.Hake and Mr.Cerna -

September is Attendance Awareness Month:

  • Every Day Matters: Regular attendance and being on time help students stay connected, keep up with learning, and build positive habits.

  • Tardy Interventions: Beginning the second week of September, we will begin addressing patterns of students arriving late to class.

  • 3+ Tardies: Students who accumulate 3 or more tardies will be assigned an after-school tardy intervention called Falcon Reset.

  • Family Partnership: We appreciate your support in helping your student arrive at school and class on time each day!

New ParentVUE Mobile App

Edupoint has released a modernized ParentVUE mobile app and retired the legacy version. To maintain uninterrupted access to your student's grades, schedules, and attendance, please transition to the new app using the following steps:

  1. Delete the Old App: Remove the legacy ParentVUE app from your phone to prevent login errors.
  2. Download the New App: Search for ParentVUE (New) in the Apple App Store or Google Play Store (or follow the prompt within your old app).
  3. Connect to District: Open the app and search for our school district using your postal zip code.
  4. Log In: Select "Already Activated" and log in using your existing username and password.

PUSD Personal Technology Policy PUSD Personal Technology Policy

Please review these expectations with your student. Our goal is to minimize distractions and create an environment where students can focus on learning and connecting with others.

During the school day:

  • Cell phones must be turned OFF (not on silent) and stored in a backpack as soon as students enter the school gates. They may not be kept in pockets or used during class, lunch, break, passing periods, or in bathrooms.

  • Gaming devices (including Nintendo Switches) must be left at home.

  • AirPods/earbuds are not permitted unless required for a documented academic accommodation, and smartwatches must remain in School Mode/Schooltime.

  • Teacher Discretion & Medical Needs: Teachers may permit phone use for specific instructional activities. Students requiring technology for medical reasons should contact administration to set up a support plan.

Communication

  • Calls: Students needing to make a call must request permission at the front office.

  • Parents: Please call the front office to reach your student during the school day rather than texting or calling their phone. Please arrange transportation and after-school plans before school begins.

Consequences & Liability Violations may result in staff confiscating the device for student pickup at the front office at the end of the day. Repeated violations may require parent involvement and additional campus restrictions. OVMS and PUSD are not responsible for lost, damaged, or stolen electronic devices brought to campus.

Student Drop Off & Pick Up Student Drop Off & Pick Up

Getting all students to school safely each day is a priority for our entire community. Please make sure you are obeying all traffic laws and following these drop-off and pick-up procedures, especially if you are new to Oak Valley.

  • Drop-Off/Pick-Up Zones: Please drop off and pick up students in the orange drop-off zones only to ensure parking lot safety. Cars turning onto Winecreek Road should follow the flow of traffic into the lot, pull as far forward as possible to expedite the process, and wait for staff direction.

  • Ivy Gate Community Entrance: The entrance to the Ivy Gate community at the end of Winecreek Road is a private road. Please respect our neighbors and do not use this area for U-turns, waiting, or parking.

  • Carmel Valley Road Rules: The section between Dove Canyon and Winecreek is a 3-Minute Drop-Off/Pick-Up zone only—no extended parking is allowed. Exercise caution near the floating bike lane, and never double park to drop off or pick up your student.

  • U-Turns: Please obey all NO U-Turn signs on both Carmel Valley Road and Winecreek Road.

Bikes, E-Bikes, Scooters, & Other Alternative Vehicles Bikes, E-Bikes, Scooters, & Other Alternative Vehicles

At OVMS, we have an Alternative Vehicle Permit Program for students who ride bikes, E-Bikes, scooters, or skateboards to school. We will have a grace period extending into September before permits are required. Students may ride a bicycle or e-Bike to school, but safety rules and traffic laws must be followed at all times.

Students riding to school must:

  • Wear a helmet.
  • Bring a lock and secure their bike/e-Bike in the bike enclosure.
  • Walk bikes and other wheeled transportation once on school grounds.
  • Follow all traffic and campus safety rules.

PUSD has also introduced a districtwide education and permission program for students who ride e-Bikes. Students will need a parking permit to park an e-Bike on campus. (permits must be renewed annually)

Important: Rollerblades, scooters, and skateboards are not permitted on campus. All permitted modes of transportation must be secured in the bike enclosure during the school day.

Bike Rack Access

For student safety, please use the designated route to the bike rack. Students coming from the 4S Boys & Girls Club or traveling east along Carmel Valley may enter the bike rack area through the main parking lot entrance, as they did last year.

Important Age & Class Regulations Did you know that operating certain types of e-bikes legally requires a rider to be at least 16 years old? For full details on e-bike classifications, age requirements, and road rules, please review the information provided by the San Diego County Bicycle Coalition.

Science Olympiad Update

Please visit our website to learn more about the program. All students who are interested in participating in the Science Olympiad must complete our Student Interest Form. This is the primary way we will communicate important information to interested students and families, including the registration form and next steps for joining the team. We are also looking for interested parents to join our coaching team. Please sign up on our Coach Interest List. For more information, please contact us at ovmsso@gmail.com.
