LRC Weekly Update
August 24th 2025
October 23rd 2026
White Cane Awareness Month in the LRC ๐ฆฏ
October is White Cane Awareness Month, and the LRC has a display of picture books to help students understand blindness and how people who are blind or visually impaired navigate their world. Stop by with your class to browse and check out a title, or ask us to pull a few books to add to your classroom read alouds.
Author visit coming in November! ๐ Thanks to Kendra Harbeck, author Yesenia Martinez will visit Richmond later next month to read her book, Lionel the Brave: A Lionโs Journey to See. Details on dates and times are coming soon.
The Great Turkey Hunt Returns! ๐ฆ
Look out for a classroom set of turkeys to color in your mailbox next week. Please have your students color them and return them to the LRC by Friday, October 30th. Weโll hide them around the school for the hunt starting Nov. 2nd.
What to tell your students:
- Turkeys will be hidden all around the school throughout the month of November, but not in the library. Please let us know if you'd prefer to not have turkeys around your classroom door. :)
- When a student finds one, they bring it to the LRC to trade for a free bookmark.
- Itโs one bookmark per student.
- Students who have already found a turkey can help a classmate find one too!
Thank you for helping get the hunt started. Happy hunting! ๐ฆ๐
Bagels and Boardgames ๐ฅฏ๐ฒ
Our second Bagels & Boardgames was a good one! ๐ฅฏ Families around tables, coffee in hand, and a whole lot of laughing over dice rolls before the bell. โ Thank you to everyone who came out and started the day with us. ๐
If you missed it, there are two more scheduled: November 13 and December 11. Same spot, same time, 8:05 to 8:45 in the LRC. Please feel free to share this information in your newsletters! ๐ฒ
Ron Keres is Coming To Richmond! ๐ธ
Mark your calendars โ author Ron Keres visits Richmond on Wednesday, October 28! He's the creator of the laugh-out-loud Finn the Frog books (This Book Is Perfect!, This Book Is On Fire!, This Book Is A Mistake!) and The Scariest Story You've Ever Heard, and he's a Geneva neighbor โ a former gym teacher turned picture book author. Nothing turns "I have to read" into "I want to write" faster than meeting a real live author.
