Headteacher's Bulletin
15/05/26 - Edition 97

Highlights of the week
Mr Lisseman - Headteacher
Dear Parents & Carers,
This week has been centred around Mental Health Awareness Week, with an important focus on wellbeing, connection and supporting one another across the school community.
We have also enjoyed two fantastic trips this week. Our choir visited Chase Bridge Primary School, where students performed beautifully and represented Twickenham School brilliantly. It was lovely to see younger pupils so engaged and inspired by the performance. Meanwhile, students involved in the Brilliant Club programme attended their graduation ceremony in Southampton, celebrating the hard work and commitment they have shown over the past few months. It was a proud moment for all involved and a wonderful opportunity to recognise their achievements.
Excitement is also building for Twickenham’s Got Talent, which takes place this evening. Rehearsals and auditions have showcased an incredible range of talent and bravery from our students, and we are looking forward to a brilliant night. If you have not yet bought tickets, they will be available on the door. Please do come along and support our students as they take to the stage.
Student Bulletin
Each Monday morning in tutor time, students and their form tutors review the weekly student bulletin. This is a round up of all the important information, notices and reminders that they need to know. The bulletin is also posted on the screens around school so they can refer back to it at any time.
An update for students who are entitled to Free School Meals
Achieving for Children
We are writing to provide you with information regarding support for families with children eligible for Free School Meals during school holidays. Families have previously received meal vouchers funded through the Government’s Household Support Fund.
The Household Support Fund has now ended which means that these school meal vouchers can no longer be issued. This means that no vouchers will be provided for the upcoming May half-term.
We understand that this change may be difficult for our families. Whilst the blanket provision of meal vouchers is no longer possible, Richmond Council have other support available to residents, please see below
End of year exams
Mr Grantham - Deputy Headteacher
End of year exams are coming up and we want to make sure every student feels prepared. We have put together year group revision guides that set out exactly what to revise for each subject, with links to free online resources. These have been shared with students in assemblies and staff will be going through them in lessons.
The exam timetable has already been shared — if your child is unsure of their dates, please ask their form tutor.
Support Our School Library – and Inspire a Love of Reading
Ms Wilson - School librarian
To celebrate the National Year of Reading, we’re inviting parents and carers to support our school library by purchasing a book from our library wish list. Each book bought goes directly into our collection, helping to inspire a lifelong love of reading.
Your generosity will make a real difference, giving students access to exciting new stories, information books, and authors they might not otherwise discover.
Every book donated is enjoyed by many students for years to come – a lasting gift that supports learning, imagination, and a vibrant reading culture across the school.
The books on the Wish List are all available for donation and many of them will also earn us 20p in extra free books for every £1 you spend.
If you decide to order something from the list, you can do so securely online directly from Scholastic and your donation will be delivered directly to school.
Thank you for helping us make reading flourish this year and beyond.
The Brilliant Club Graduation Ceremony
Fourteen Year 9 students were chosen to participate in the Brilliant Club. This is an eight week Scholars Programme delivered by a PHD student which aims to challenge and nurture academic ability. This year’s programme was about ‘The Climate Change Conumdrum’ and involved lectures, tutorials and a 15,000 word essay.
The students learnt to consider different points of view and reach conclusions; to understand new ideas and concepts and to write for an academic audience. The programme supports students to develop key university-preparedness skills including critical thinking, subject knowledge, written communication and research skills.
We are so proud of the students who graduated this programme. To receive their awards, they were invited to Southampton University for the day where they were given a tour by student Ambassadors. This was a valuable opportunity to discover the possibilities university offers.
Mental Health Awareness Week
This week we are marking Mental Health Awareness Week with assemblies for all year groups, focusing on wellbeing, resilience, and the importance of looking after our mental health.
The library also has a wide range of books and resources available for students to explore, covering topics linked to mental health, mindfulness, and wellbeing. Sometimes the best support starts with a conversation, a bit of understanding, or a good book.
PTA
We only have 1 more rugby parking days in June. Well done to Tracey a year 8 parent who won the most recent prize draw.
We look forward to seeing some of you at Twickenham's got talent. Maybe you will be lucky enough to win one of our raffle prizes as well as enjoy the brilliant performances!
UKMT Maths Challenge
Ms McEvoy - Deputy Head of Maths
A huge well done to alll the Year 7 and 8 students who were selected by their teachers to participate in the UKMT Maths Challenge. We are so proud of you!
Also, a massive shout out to Matty, Panav, Muhammad and David who have qualified for the follow-up round in June! An unreal achievement!!!
E-Bikes and E-Scooters
For health and safety reasons, students are not permitted to bring e‑scooters or e‑bikes onto the school site. These devices cannot be stored safely during the school day and present a risk to pedestrians, vehicles, and site users.
We kindly ask parents and carers to ensure that students travel to and from school using alternative methods. Thank you for your cooperation in helping us maintain a safe environment for all.”
We've got a world record holder!
A massive congratulations to Chris, a member of our fantastic Premises Team, for completing the London Marathon! An incredible achievement in itself—but even more excitingly, they are now part of a Guinness World Record for the largest number of finishers in a marathon.
What an amazing accomplishment and a brilliant example of determination and resilience. We are incredibly proud
