At Good Shepherd, student safety is our highest priority. Over the past weeks, our staff has been actively reviewing and updating our Emergency Crisis Plan to ensure responses become automatic in any situation. We practice fire, tornado, and lockdown drills to keep students and staff prepared. Next week, students will again practice a classroom lockdown, as well as a church lockdown or evacuation plan.

We want families to know that we are actively thinking about every aspect of safety. Our staff has completed active shooter response training to ensure we are fully prepared for all emergencies. Our team has also completed specialized training for Project Adam, which prepares staff to respond using a defibrillator if necessary. Thanks to the PTO, key staff members have received CPR training as part of this team.

We conduct periodic walk-throughs with law enforcement and will keep families informed through our phone alert system, providing clear instructions if emergency action is needed. In the event of a real emergency, please wait for instructions from our phone alert system before coming to the school or attempting to pick up students.

In addition, we have made adjustments to Mass attendance days, with staff actively monitoring to ensure student safety during these gatherings.

These ongoing efforts highlight the importance we place on safety. We will continue refining and practicing our drills so students and staff are as prepared as possible.

We are proud to share that our school counselor, Jessica Compton-Crocker, was recently recognized by the City of Merriam for her quick actions that helped save a man’s life. Her courage and compassion come as no surprise to anyone who knows her. That is simply who she is.

You can read the full story in The Leaven using the link below. It is a wonderful reminder of the heart and dedication Jessica brings to our Good Shepherd community every day. Click Here.
