ATTN: PARENTS OF 7TH & 8TH GRADERS
Dear Seventh and Eighth Grade Students and Parents/Guardians,
I’m writing to inform you of a schedule change for the last two weeks of our current physical education units at Kodiak Middle School.
Starting with block one next week, all seventh and eighth grade girls will participate in a swimming unit together, under the guidance of Mr. Gramata, at the swimming pool. Simultaneously, all seventh and eighth grade boys will engage in a badminton unit in the gym with Mr. Fogle.
Please ensure that all seventh and eighth grade girls bring their swimming attire to school beginning block one of next week. This includes swimsuits, towels, and any other necessary gear for their swimming sessions.
Best regards,
Mr. Fogle, 7th Grade PE Teacher
Mr. Gramata, 8th Grade PE Teacher
FIELD TRIP - KODIAK HISTORY MUSEUM
Mrs. Lhotka's Skills 1 and 3 classes visited the Kodiak History Museum last week.
Here are some comments about what they learned on their trip:
“I learned that the Kodiak History Museum is one of the oldest buildings in Kodiak. Before it turned into a museum, it was someone’s house and it was also a place they used for offices. The museum has a spot in the room that tells a story about someone’s death.”
-Lanna R.
“I learned that the museum was built in 1808 and in the 1960s it became the museum and the museum is the oldest building in Alaska.”
-Miguel M.R.
“I learned that the oldest artifact the KHM has is the kayak, used by the two brothers and made by the two brothers. I also learned the museum used to be a house for two families at two different times. I also learned that most of the furniture and clothing are mostly from the Erskine family.”
-Czyrin M.
“I learned that the museum in Kodiak is one of the oldest buildings that shares or holds history. What I learned is that the Alutiiq and Sugpiaq people had to migrate their culture and they combine the culture and religion.”
-Robert G.
MRS. LEISURE'S 6TH GRADE SCIENCE CLASS
Sixth grade science students participated in gallery walks to view infographics for Solar System Objects created by their peers. Students assessed the infographics to see if students met the assignment requirements. Afterwards, students independently voted for their favorite infographic that met the expectations.
