Dear Bixby School Parents/Guardians, Community, and Faculty,

We can't believe that September is already done. We had a great start to the school year. Our Back to School night was a big success. A thank you to our PTO and community resources who came to provide information to families. Additionally, our teachers did an excellent job of providing information regarding their classrooms.

October is a busy month. Students will start the month with Week of Respect the week of October 6th. Students are encouraged to participate in our spirit days. October 15th is picture day. Students can wear outfit of their choice for picture day. At the end of the month, we will have our annual costume parade on October 31st. More details on this will be sent out. The week of October 6th marks our annual “Week of Respect” at E. Roy Bixby School and schools across New Jersey. In accordance with state law and the Anti-Bullying Bill of Rights Act, Bixby School will be providing instruction and activities that focus on the prevention of aggressive acts and bullying. This week is but one of the many weeks throughout the year we foster and promote an environment of respect for all students in order to create a positive school climate for growth and learning. We encourage all of our students to participate in our “spirit week” in which they can wear special clothing based on the theme of the day.

Tuesday October 7th from 5:00 PM-6:00 PM

October 18th from 2 PM-4 PM

Please use discretion when choosing your child’s costume. The safety and the welfare of all students must be considered.

• Costumes should not depict any type of violent characterization or discrimination.

• Please make sure your child can comfortably wear their costume throughout the day.

• Masks that cover the entire face will not be permitted in the building, outside at lunch, or during the parade. (N-95, and medical masks are permitted)

• Weapons or objects that may be used as weapons, will not be permitted.

• The fit and length of the costumes must be appropriate for a school setting. No bare midriffs.

Each month the students of Bixby School work very hard to win either the character education award or the student of the month award. For the character education award, students were chosen who display helpful qualities. The students receive certificates of achievement, an Applebee's gift certificate and a picture with the principal. Each class selects two students monthly to win this award. Congratulations to ALL!

The character trait for October will be Respect.

We are excited to celebrate Ms. Carolyn Woo as our Staff Member of the Month! As a preschool teacher, Ms. Woo consistently demonstrates patience, kindness, and dedication to her students. She has built a wonderful rapport with her class, and her students truly love and trust her. Ms. Woo meets each child where they are and helps them grow each day. Always friendly and approachable, she brings warmth and positivity to everyone she interacts with. We are so grateful for the amazing work she does with our youngest learners!

We are proud to recognize Mrs. Heidy Reyes, our September Paraprofessional of the Month! Mrs. Reyes is dedicated, organized, and compassionate, always going above and beyond to support our 2nd grade students. Her patience, kindness, and attentive care create a nurturing environment where students can thrive. In addition to her impact in the classroom, she is a collaborative and dependable colleague whose positive spirit uplifts both staff and students. We are grateful for her hard work and the difference she makes every day!

The PTO is a group of parents, teachers and staff who are dedicated to making sure our students have enriched opportunities while attending Bixby school. The PTO has provided financial support for field trips, teacher appreciation week gifts/treats, laser light shows, and much more!
