Principal's Message Principal's Message

Dear Hiteon Elementary Community,

This winter and the start of March have been filled with exciting experiences for our students! From BINGO Night and a snow day to a jump rope assembly, an author visit, and even a chance to meet live alpacas—our students have had incredible opportunities to learn and connect. Fourth and fifth graders showcased their teamwork in the Oregon Battle of the Books, kindergarteners celebrated 100 days of school, and our third graders are preparing to bring joy to a local retirement home with their singing this Friday. Additionally, we hope all families will join us for our first annual SEL night on Thursday, March 20th!

None of this would be possible without the unwavering support of our dedicated staff and the strong Hiteon community. It is this partnership that makes our school truly special, and we thrive when we work together for our students.

This month, we launched our "Too Cool for School" attendance campaign, designed to encourage and celebrate consistent school attendance. Each week, students who are at school on a "surprise" day receive a fun reward. Last week, they had the thrill of flying balsa planes provided by Life Flight and even got to meet their mascot, Little Al. What will this week’s surprise be? We can't wait to find out!

As we look ahead to spring, we are excited for all that’s to come and grateful to be part of such a wonderful school community. Thank you for your ongoing support—we couldn’t do it without you!

Sincerely,

Janet Maza and Jenny Read-Emslie

With the beautiful Spring weather coming up, we want to remind parents that supervision is not available at the playground after school.

Although the gates are unlocked for dismissal, we ask that the playground NOT be used until after 5:30PM.

This is for your child's safety as well as the safety of all Hiteon students. Students should not be on school campus after 2:20pm unless they are involved in a supervised after-school activity.

If you have any questions, please call the main office at 503-356-2140.

Too Sick for School Guidelines Too Sick for School Guidelines

Sneezing, coughing, fevers and more are common at this time of the year. We are seeing lots of our students not feeling well and having to go home early because they just are not able to make it through the day. We hope everyone can stay healthy during the winter season and just want to remind you of the BSD gudelines for keeping students home if they are not feeling well. Below are posters with information for the common illness we see at school you can also visit the BSD website for more information

Hiteon’s Attendance Matters Challenge Hiteon’s Attendance Matters Challenge

Exciting surprises are coming in March—but you’ll have to be here to get them!

On three different days, students who are present will earn a special reward. When will it happen? What will it be? The only way to find out is to be at school every day!

Can you be present for all three surprise days? Challenge yourself and don’t miss out!

We understand that sometimes kids miss school due to illness, and we want them to stay home and recover when needed. What is too sick for school? As a reminder, see the Too Sick for School guidelines above

Today was our first surprise! Students had the opportunity to fly airplanes during recess. ✈️ Thank you to Life Flight Network for their support in making this event happen!

Staff Favorite Books in the Library Staff Favorite Books in the Library

Mrs. Sadlouskos, our awesome Librarian has created a "Staffs Favorite". The kids love the staff recommendation game they are playing! They are finishing up day 3 of my 6-day rotation. I want all the kids to have a chance to find a staff pick.

Volunteer Background Check System Volunteer Background Check System

If you haven’t done so already, please reapply to be a volunteer in the Beaverton School District. We’re implementing a new volunteer management system over the summer and need time to process and complete the criminal background checks for all applicants.

Start on the Volunteer webpage on the district website. The entire process — including the review of the Child Abuse Prevention & Reporting and Adult Sexual Misconduct training materials — should take less than 10 minutes to complete.

Thank you for prioritizing our students’ safety and for your willingness to volunteer in BSD.

Spring Break at the Library

When school is out the library is the place to be! Students can stop by the main library at 2 PM Monday-Friday for building and creating new things every day. Paper planes, pompom catapults, playdough playtime and more! We are especially excited that folks from OMSI will demonstrate physics at work with “Motion Commotion” on Thursday, March 27, at 2 PM. Here’s a link to a list of spring break events.
