A Message from Principal Daliposki A Message from Principal Daliposki

Dear PS 199 Families,

It’s hard to believe we’ve already reached the beginning of April! The school year is flying by, and we’re so proud of all the progress our students have made. As the weather gets warmer and the days grow longer, we’re excited to embrace the energy and fresh start that spring brings.

Please note that Spring Recess will take place from Monday, April 14 through Friday, April 18. School will be closed during this time, and we encourage families to use the break to relax, recharge, and enjoy time together. We look forward to welcoming students back on Monday, April 21, refreshed and ready for the final stretch of the school year.

Looking ahead, students in grades 3–5 will take the New York State English Language Arts (ELA) Exam on April 29 and 30. These assessments are an opportunity for students to demonstrate their growth and learning. We encourage all students to get plenty of rest the night before and arrive to school on time each day, ready to do their best.

On May 1, 2025, we’re excited to invite families to join us for one of two sessions focused on “Getting Ready for Next Year.” These sessions will offer helpful information about what to expect in the upcoming school year, ways to support your child over the summer, and how to ensure a smooth transition. Details and links will be posted on your child’s Google Classroom page as the date approaches. In addition, 5th grade families are invited to attend a special session hosted by IS 125 on May 8, 2025, to help prepare for the transition to middle school. We encourage all families to attend these important events.

As always, thank you for your continued support and partnership. Let’s finish the year strong—together!

Visit our website for the full calendar!

Warmly,
Mr. Daliposki

Learning Through the Arts

Dear Families and Colleagues,

Earlier this week, I had the pleasure of stopping by a Broadway theater to celebrate some phenomenal performers—our very own New York City Public Schools students! Our Arts Office has produced this incredible event, the Shubert Theatre Festival, for 11 consecutive years. This year, students from five of our high schools had the opportunity to act, sing, and dance on a Broadway stage.

To me, this is what arts education is all about, especially in a cultural center like New York City. I’m proud of the work our Arts Office is doing to strengthen arts education across the city— from launching the ArtsHub, a dedicated creative space in Brooklyn where students, educators, and artists collaborate and learn, to piloting a program that introduces Pre-K students to the violin.

The arts help our students grow and thrive; they create space for self-expression and self-confidence. I saw that impact firsthand at the Shubert Theatre Festival. To all the student performers, congratulations on an excellent show!

In partnership,

Melissa Aviles-Ramos

Chancellor
