Our Parent Mentors help in the classrooms 2 hours a day 4 days a week. Twice a week they have workshops for 1.5 hours for community building. We learn how we can be active community members and how we can help our district!

1st Annual Parent Mentor Spirit Week next week (Feb 10-14) in communities and schools across Illinois.


Parent Mentor Spirit Week is a way for us to acknowledge the work Parent Mentors, coordinators, organizers, and educators do every day to put these values into action. We want to acknowledge the strength, courage, and love Parent Mentors demonstrate as a consistent source of information, resources, and love for our communities – especially when it is not easy.

We want to celebrate all the ways Parent Mentors show up to bring joy, peace, and comfort to 40,000 students every day. All of our kids deserve a childhood and school day where they can feel safe, silly, loved, and proud of who they are – and that is one of many super powers that parent mentors gift the world.

We deeply appreciate your support for the Parent Mentor Program. Thanks to your support, our collective numbers last school year were:


  • 1,821 Parent Mentor Graduates

  • 250 Partner Schools

  • 39 School Districts in IL

  • 395 Parapro and Sub Credentials Earned by Parent Mentors through Ladders of Opportunity since 2023

  • 39,408 Students received extra attention and support in their classroom thanks to a Parent Mentor!

We would like to thank all of our Families and Friends who came out for Winter Fest! It was the first Parent Mentor-led event. Our Parent Mentors enjoyed watching you dance, play games, do crafts, and meet local Organizations. We cannot wait to do it again!

Our Parent Mentors meet every Friday to engage Beyond the Classroom. This is where our Parent Mentors learn important skills that they can take into their homes and our classrooms.

About the Parent Mentor Program

Parent Mentors, help fill persistent equity gaps by volunteering in classrooms for 2 hours/day for at least 100 hours. The Parent Mentors are supported by weekly training on classroom instructional practices and leadership training. As a result, they support each other to pursue their goals and unite the school community for long-term change.
