A Wonderful Start to the Year

Dear Families,

The first two days at Pomerado have been AWESOME! 🐾

Thank you to our students, families, and staff for such a warm welcome to the Wildcat community. There has been so much energy, excitement, and joy on campus, and I already feel so lucky to be part of this special school.

I’m looking forward to a fantastic year together and can’t wait to see everyone at Back to School Night on Thursday. I will be sharing a little about myself from 5:30-6:00 in the MPR. I hope to see you all there.

Warmly,

Lauren LeMaster

Drop Off & Pick Up Routines Drop Off & Pick Up Routines

Beginning of the School Day

There are two ways for students to enter school in the morning,

(1) the Walker Gate by the lower baseball fields and

(2) the Upper Gate by the upper parking lot.

🚶Walker Gate: Students who walk to school and those who arrive between 8:15 am and 8:25 am for breakfast will enter through the Walker Gate.

🚗Upper Gate: Students who are driven to school and arrive after 8:25 am, will be dropped off in the upper parking lot at the Upper Gate.

Students who arrive between 8:15 am and 8:25 am

If students arrive between 8:15 am and 8:25 am they must enter through the Walker Gate near the lower baseball fields, so families will need to drop them off near this gate. If you are driving, please drop your student(s) off on the same side of the street as the school so they do not need to cross Ninth St.

Students who are driven to school and arrive after 8:25 am

Students arriving by car at 8:25 am or later can be dropped off at the Upper Gate in the upper parking lot and will then walk across the playground to the cafeteria if they are eating breakfast.

Playground

Playground supervision begins at 8:25 am so students should not be on the playground until then. Except for the first day of school, families will not be allowed on campus before school. Students can be dropped off in the upper parking lot, families will remain in their cars, or students who walk will enter through the Walker Gate on the east side of school by the lower baseball fields. Staff will be available to assist in both locations. Students can play on the playground until the bell rings at 8:40 am, when they will line up and then walk to class with their teacher.

Dismissal Routines

TK & Kinder Students:

  • TK students are dismissed in front of school from the gate near the TK playground.
  • Kindergarten students are dismissed in front of school by the library gate.

Students in grades 1-5

To help make dismissal safe and efficient, please follow these pick-up procedures:

🚗 If you are picking up in the Upper Parking Lot:

  • Please stay in your vehicle and do not exit your car.
  • If possible, please place a paper with your student’s first and last name and grade level on the passenger side of your dashboard. This will help staff quickly identify your child.
  • Staff will be outside to help your child safely get to your vehicle.
  • Please remain in your vehicle until your child is brought to you.

🚶 If you are walking or park your vehicle:

  • You will be directed to the Walker Gate near the lower baseball fields to pick up your child.
  • Please do not walk through the Upper Parking Lot to pick up your child.

Thank you for your patience and cooperation as we work to keep dismissal safe and organized for everyone!

Meals at School Meals at School

Breakfast and lunch are available at no charge to all PUSD students, under California's Universal Meals Program. Please visit the PUSD Food and Nutrition website for more information and menus. Families may also choose to pack their student’s lunch and snack for school each day.

Breakfast

School breakfast service begins at 8:15 am and ends at 8:35 am each day. Students can leave the breakfast tables and go to the playground starting at 8:25 am or when they finish eating.

Lunch

Students may choose to pack lunch from home or get lunch from the cafeteria for free. Students have a 40 minute block for lunch which includes 20 minutes to eat and 20 minutes to play.

Although meals are free for all students, our District is still required to process Applications for Free and Reduced-Price Meals. We encourage all households to apply online at MySchoolApps.com, or using a paper application. Meal applications are very important because meal reimbursements are still based on individual student eligibility, and State funding for school sites is partially determined by free/reduced eligibility. Households that are income-eligible for free or reduced-price meals may also qualify for other benefits such as: free or discounted after-school care, reduced home internet costs, discounts on standardized testing fees, and food-purchasing assistance during summer breaks.

Menus will be linked every month here on our Newsletters. Here are the August Breakfast and Lunch Menus

School Supplies School Supplies

Your donations make a HUGE difference in our classrooms, and we want to make every cent count for your kids!

This year, in lieu of providing supplies from a traditional list, we ask each family to donate $30–$40 (or any amount you are able to contribute) to our individual classroom supply funds. Money will be used to purchase school supplies throughout the school year.

Why the change? We’ve found this is not only a cheaper and easier option for families, but it also ensures each teacher can purchase exactly what the class needs, when it's needed, with nothing going to waste! 💵✏️📌

How to Donate:

  • Methods: Cash, checks, or Amazon Gift Cards
  • When: Donations can be dropped off during the first weeks of school or after Back to School Night
  • Checks: Please make checks payable to Pomerado Elementary School Foundation

🛒Prefer to shop a physical list instead? If you would still prefer to shop a list yourself, you can check out the items needed per grade level here.

Note: All donations are voluntary; a donation is not required to participate in any school activity.

Thank you so much for your support! ❤️
