April 2025
Message from the Principal
Greetings, SMS Families.
The third quarter ends on Friday, April 11th, right before spring break. Report cards will be mailed home sometime during the week of April 28th, so please watch for those.
SMS Student Council will host the last grade 6-8 dance of the year on Friday, April 4th. This dance marks the last “whole school” dance for the year. We hope to see a great turnout!
As a reminder, student scheduling for the 2025-2026 school year is upon us. Soon, sixth-grade families will receive information about opportunities for accelerated coursework in 7th-grade science and mathematics for students who qualify. There will also be information for 6th-grade families on the SMS website and via ThrillShare messages.
Finally, daily attendance is critical to students’ academic success. As educators, we want students here with us in the building as much as possible. However, as a school community, we must balance the health of all our students with this desire for strong attendance. With the recent increase in illnesses, we would like to send out a helpful reminder of our district policy:
Students need to remain home for a full 24 hours after the last episode of vomiting.
Students must be fever-free for 24 hours without fever-reducing medications before returning to school.
Students need to remain home for 24 hours after the last episode of diarrhea.
We take pride in keeping our students healthy and safe. Please ensure they are washing their hands, and if they are not feeling well, students should remain home until they feel better. Thank you for all your help!
Sincerely,
Dr. Fisher

Sixth-Grade Team Building Day
Sixth-grade students enjoyed some time outside for March's Sixth-Grade Team Day! The sixth-grade team loves coming together to make memories and spend time teambuilding on our team day each month!
As part of March's Sixth-Grade Team Day, students took part in a STEM (Science, Engineering, Math and Technology) activity to protect a leprechaun's gold by building the tallest tower from popsicle sticks, play-doh and paper!
Foreign Language Fashion Show
Students in Spanish and French classes recently held a fashion show! The students had to practice describing the clothing their partner was wearing on the "catwalk". There was a prize for the student wearing the most clothing and it was very competitive!
Pi Day
March 14 was Pi Day! Springville Middle School students celebrated with the more delicious form of pie!
Fine Arts Club
Fine Arts Club students learned about the fiber art of crochet from member Lily McCrory recently. The club meets after school to explore different skills/arts/crafts that its members are passionate about from the students themselves.
Day of Silence
From Wednesday, February 12th, through Thursday, February 13th, 2025, ten 8th-grade members of the Middle School's Human Rights Club voluntarily participated in its 11th Annual "Day of Silence." These students willingly give up their real and digital voices in solidarity with the millions of girls around the world who are deprived of an education.
It was the culminating activity that complimented their study of Alice Paul, an American suffragette who in 1917 went on a hunger strike in order to get women the right to vote. Over $500 of pledges were collected that were donated to the School of Leadership Afghanistan, an all-girls school in Rwanda that in 2021 had to flee for their lives to escape the Taliban's takeover of its native country.
"It was inspiring to watch these students use their agency to tackle a complicated world problem," said their Social Studies teacher, Drew Beiter. "The money they raised will in turn have a ripple effect that will make the world a better place."
Happy St. Patrick's Day
Springville Middle School student Abigail Aronson was part of the dance troop from Harris Grieco Academy of Irish Dance to perform at SES on St. Patrick's Day.
