State Testing Begins this Month - Attendance is Crucial!
Beginning April 21 until May 7, Dalton students in grades 3rd, 4th, and 5th will take the Idaho Standards Achievement Tests (ISATs). They will be assessed in ELA and math. Grade 5 is also assessed in science. Similarly, students in grades K-3 will complete the Idaho Reading Indicator (IRI) in May (the I-Station/Amira test). The results of these assessments provide valuable data about what skills our students have mastered and how much they have grown over the course of the school year. Your student's teacher will communicate their specific schedule with you in the coming weeks.
Studies show students test more successfully if they arrive to school having had a good night's sleep and a healthy breakfast. They should also have access to healthy snacks throughout the testing day. Please continue to support your child's academic success by having your child attend school EACH DAY during this testing window. Thank you as we partner together for a successful testing season!

Daily Attendance - Giving it our Best
Showing up every day matters more than you might think! Each school day is filled with meaningful learning, friendships, and routines that help students grow academically and socially. When students attend regularly, they build confidence, stay connected, and don’t miss out on important moments that can’t be replaced. Thank you for helping your child make attendance a priority; every day truly counts!
Special request: Please, please, please plan those vacations for break times during the school year.
New Student and Kindergarten Registration
New student and kindergarten registration for the 2026-2027 school year opens on April 27th, 2026. It's important we hear from families now so we can plan accordingly. Students turning 5 years of age on or before September 1, 2026, are eligible for kindergarten.
Visit cdaschools.org/page/new-student-enrollment (preferred method) starting on April 27th.

Fit for Bloomsday
This year our K through 5th graders have the opportunity to participate in the Fit for Bloomsday Program from March 16th-May 29th. This is an optional program that encourages students to exercise everyday. I have a Bloomsday game board available for students where your child can track his or her progress. To encourage fitness, kids can cross off or color in a stepping stone on their game board when they run, walk or exercise for 10 minutes on a given day. They may only cross off one stepping stone each day, even if they exercise longer than 10 minutes. You must cross off or color the stepping stones in order. When your child reaches the stones with the numbers filled in with black, they earn a prize. He or she may bring the chart to PE that week or you can snap a photo of the chart and email it to beth.schultz@cdaschools.org. They may also wait until the chart is complete and get all the prizes at one time. I will give your child his or her prize as soon as possible. During PE class the students were told about the prizes and have the option of taking a game board home.
Fit for Bloomsday prizes:
Color-changing pencils
Running shoe pencil sharpener
Stickers
Bookmarks
Temporary tattoos
Kaiser Permanente “Ouch Packs”
Below are some Bloomsday events if your family or child wish to participate:
Jr. Bloomsday – grades 3rd – 7th (1 mile run; Sunday, April 12 - - fills fast!)
Bloomsday – all ages (7.46 miles; Sunday, May 3 - - downtown Spokane!)
