A Note from Mrs. Pitts

Dear RES Families,

Happy New Year! With the new year always comes the thought of NEXT YEAR. It is time for Kindergarten registration!!!

Rye Elementary School is presently registering Kindergarten and Grade 1 (new students entering RES only) students for the 2024-2025 school year. Our Kindergarten program is a full day program. It is important that all students register so that we can plan classes for next year. We are already in the planning and budgeting process so please register right away.

You can register at:

https://sau50.powerschool.com/public/formbuilder/form.html?formid=2327135.

Once approved, you will receive instructions on how register for Power School and complete

forms online.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Please use 9/1/2026 as your entry date if registering for next year.

Please register early. Details are online at the RES webpage. http://res.sau50.org/

Students chronological age will be age 5 to enter kindergarten or age 6 to enter Grade 1

on or before September 30 of the year the student plans to enter school. There will be Kindergarten Orientation information announced in the spring, as well as details regarding kindergarten screening.

Warmly,

Michelle Pitts

Thank you to those who could make it to our "Donuts with Grownups" presentation this morning. If you could not make it but would be interested in attending if we did a repeat performance, please email me some times I should consider! I would love as many families to get this information as possible. We had several staff there to present and answer questions, such as Leah Weeks (Reading Specialist), Sarah Holmes (Math Specialist), Lori Arsenault (School Counselor), Laurie Hounam (BCBA), and Diane Smaracko (Teacher in Charge). I am sending this presentation (also called "RES 101") so families who were not present have a sense of the information provided.

RES 101 PRESENTATION

One important point I would like to share is that our staff has been exploring literacy programs (knowledge/comprehension and writing) over the course of this year. The plan is to implement one program, as a staff, at the start of the 2026-2027 school year. This year, we conducted a field study in grades K-2 with CKLA in the fall and now have teachers in each grade piloting CKLA (grade 4), Arts and Letters, and MyView. Teachers will be sending home communication around these programs shortly, if they have not already. The staff at RES has been so flexible in training, planning and piloting these programs as this decision will ultimately impact all students. It is important and we are more than willing to invest the time and energy it takes to make the right decision!

-ATTENTION: Fourth Grade Families!: Check your child's folder for information about upcoming NAEP testing.

-Arrival: school starts at 8:20 so students need to be in classrooms by this time. If you arrive outside at 8:20, your child could be marked tardy.

LUNCH IN THE CAF LUNCH IN THE CAF

You are welcome to join us in the cafeteria during your child's lunch block! There is no pressure to attend but it the door is open to you if you find this works with your schedule. Due to cafeteria space and tables, we invite one family member at a time to have lunch with their child(ren). Lunch is a wonderful time for kids to practice their social skills and build relationships with their peers. We actively monitor these times and encourage student growth and independence while also keeping a focus on fueling their bodies with food! This occasional experience offers you a special time to join your child in their social world at RES.
  • Email resoffice@sau50.org if you would like to attend with the date/time. It is important to anticipate who will be in the building. We love these opportunities for students and their family members but we will always put safety first.
  • Adults must bring their own lunch and can bring lunch for their own child.
  • We do have a focus during this time...eating for energy and brain power!
  • Family members must meet the child in the cafeteria and leave from the cafeteria BEFORE we line up all the children.
  • Days for family visits are Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.
  • Lunch times are:
  • Kindergarten-11:45-12:10

    First Grade-12:15-12:40

    Second Grade-12:15-12:40

    Third Grade- 11:15-11:40

    Fourth Grade-11:15-11:40
