Cougar Newsletter - March 6, 2026
Message from Your Principal
Cougar Community,
The month of March is here, and we have made it to Spring Break. We hope you and your students find time to rest and relax during the break. These breaks are so important to unplug and spend some time catching up with family and friends. We are moving closer to our testing season, and it is truly important for our students to recharge and prepare for the month of April.
Our Attendance percentage continues to stay strong, so we thank you for your support in getting our students here everyday. A great education is dependent on showing up everyday ready to learn.
In closing, our teachers, staff and administrators are ALL IN for our students, and we appreciate the AMAZING students you have sent to us. Your help and support is critical in the success of all of our students. Also, please consider joining the AJMS PTA to continue to help out our community.
Let's FINISH the year off STRONG!!
- If your student is needing immunizations, please contact our school nurse (dion.castaneda@nisd.net).
- For the 2025-2026 academic year, Parent/ Guardian written health excuses may only be accepted until the fifth absence of the year. Upon the student’s sixth health related absence, a doctor’s note must be provided.

AJMS Orchestra Earns a Division 1 Superior Rating
HUGE Congrats to the Advanced Orchestra for receiving a Division 1 Superior Rating at UIL contest this year. This is the first Orchestra Award for Jones MS in over 10 years, and the 4th received in our 50+ year history. This would not have been possible without a consistent willingness to try new things, and the students' hard work toward our goals. Thank you so much to our Orchestra Director, Mrs. Fielding, for challenging our students and modeling a love for music.
Congrats to our AJMS Special Olympians
Our AJMS ALE and BMC Students participated in the NISD Special Olympics. It was such an amazing event for our students to show off their amazing skills. We all had an amazing time!
AJMS Multicultural Night
Our AJMS Multicultural Night was a huge success. Our students and families were able to see our students showcase their work, play games and do crafts. This event truly shows how much our community loves Jones MS.

Chromebooks Carts in the Classroom
Starting this school year, Northside ISD will be instituting a change in the distribution of our student Chromebook devices. After careful consideration, we will be transitioning from the current model of assigning Chromebooks to each individual student, to a model where the devices stay in the possession of the classroom, under the supervision of the teacher. This decision is driven by our commitment to enhancing student focus and learning in the classroom, as well as ensuring the long-term sustainability of our technology devices and programs.
Our aim is to provide the most effective learning environment for all students. While technology is an invaluable tool, we've observed that a model with devices assigned to students can sometimes lead to increased distractions for students or device management issues like lost chargers, uncharged or broken devices, hindering their ability to fully engage with classroom lessons.
This shift to a class set model is a strategic move that will allow us to implement significant cost savings related to device life-cycle replacement responsibilities. These savings are imperative to ensure our district has continued funding and support of our overall technology program well into the future.
Our priority is to ensure all students have access to the necessary tools for a high-quality education. We will provide information at the start of the school year to students on how to check out a device for after-school use for homework or classroom assignments.
We believe this approach will enhance the learning environment, fostering focus and productivity, while also responsibly managing district resources. Thank you for your continued partnership in your child's education.
