Wellness with Kelly Parker
DCS students continued to learn and practice locomotor movements, animal moves, pathways and cooperative games. Additionally, we played locomotor castles, turtle tag, 4 corner color fitness, hula hut challenges, time machine and race to the galaxy. We had fun and stayed active.
Note from Robin Gregg, School Counselor
This year, as in the past, I am available to meet with students individually and in small groups, to work with them on problem-solving, emotional self-regulation and general "emotional literacy." We focus on various social/friendship skills, including the following: "reading" other people's feelings by observing "clues" such as facial expressions, body language and tone of voice; noticing and acknowledging one's own feelings; coping skills; and practicing empathy and kindness.
During the past few weeks I have been meeting individually with students new to our school---each kindergarten student as well as older students. These "minute meetings" provide children with an opportunity to meet me, their school counselor, and also give me a chance to get to know each of them.
Also this year, as in the past, I welcome communication from students' families, so please feel free to contact me with any concerns or questions:

Plastic Recycling-the DCS community has recycled over 2000 pounds of plastic bags and in return were given a bench from the Trex decking company! Please keep your clean plastic shopping bags and pellet bags coming, we are working toward a second bench and beyond!
DCS also collects metal tabs to be donated toward support for people with prosthetics! Please bring your tabs to school!
