Message from Our Principal
Hello Mountain View Families,
We have finished our middle of year testing and are busy forming our intervention groups based on the collected data. We have been seeing gains in several areas. You are able to see your child's MAP information in the Parent Portal.
We have a few activities coming up that I wanted to encourage you to come and join us. February 23 is our annual Math Night from 5 - 6:30 PM. This same evening Freddy's is hosting a fundraiser with us from 4 - 8 PM. On February 28 we will have a PULSE meeting at 1:30. I have attached the flier for this event below my message.
The 2023-24 calendar has been adopted for next year. I have also attached it below. School will begin and end on the same dates as the previous calendar, however we will have a Fall Break next year.
Thank you for your support of Mountain View! You are appreciated!
Respectfully,
LaBecca Thompson

Safety Issues
We have received some safety concerns that I would like to mention. We want our students safe and since I was a child the playground has been an attraction for having fun. The parking lot is a wide-open space for riding bikes.
1) Unescorted students are coming to play on the school playground after school hours. Please be aware there is no one to monitor students after hours.
2) Students ride electric bikes and scooters in the parking lot after school hours. Please be aware we have parents picking up students from YMCA in the evenings.
Please talk to your child about these safety concerns, if they apply, and ways to remain safe. Thank you.

Counselor's Corner
This month we have been learning about the character trait of Fairness
Fairness is treating people according to their needs. This does not always mean it will be equal. Students are learning to treat others and themselves fairly when experiencing big emotions such as anger or frustration. The book “Angry Ninja” by Mary Nhin shows the students that strong emotions are normal and can either be helpful or harmful to a situation or others. It also shows them a self-calming strategy called “1+3+10” that teaches them to think of 1 calming word, take 3 slow deep breaths, count to 10 slowly, and use their words to say what they are feeling in that moment.
Please ask your child about the two strategies they have learned.
3rd-5th Grade
Classroom guidance has been going well for grades 3-5. Let’s start with our Fifth grade. The students are very involved in Middle School Registration. Our Nolan Middle School STEM Counselor came to speak to our students about the opportunity of applying for the STEM Academy. We have about 25 fifth grade students who have expressed an interest in this program. Union Grove and Eastern Hill Counselors will be visiting with our fifth graders on Friday, 24 February to discuss the choices in PE as well as Pre AP Honors classes.
Our fourth graders have been discussing Internet Safety and Cyberbullying. We are stressing to the students about how important safety is in this area. Bullying education will continue as part of our study.
Our third graders have completed their first book study and now are in their second book. Our book is called The LEGEND OF THE REGULATORS AND THE SECRET LIST. It will continue stressing ways for them to identify and learn more strategies to self-regulate to help solve problems.
We wish you well!!!
