Wonderful finish to the regular season for Monarch girls’ basketball

Monarch girls' basketball program took their show on the road to wrap up the regular season this past week.

It started in Longmont on another cold Tuesday night when Monarch took on Silver Creek on their home court. The chilly outside temperatures didn’t cause the Monarch girls’ basketball teams to go cold. Rather, both the JV and varsity teams came out hot! As we've seen over the season, the JV team continues to improve with each game. You would not recognize this team if you’ve not seen them play since December. One of the goals for our JV team was to score 30 points in one game this season. Now that is routine. Led by Emerson Hebeler’s 12 points, 8 boards, and 4 steals, the Monarch JV team outlasted Silver Creek to take the win with the final score of 32-27.

The Monarch varsity squad dominated in their game against Silver Creek. While this wasn’t a surprise, thanks to a great coaching staff and the belief in developing our team as a whole, every player on the varsity squad played similar minutes. Buckets were scored by each player, but Junior Avery Kennedy stood out as a player of the game with 80% field goal percentage and 12 points in just 12 minutes. Monarch improved their league record to 10-2 by winning 74-32.

On Friday night, the Monarch girls' basketball teams traveled to Centaurus for their final game of the regular season. Both teams' fans packed the gym for the JV and varsity games.

All of the JV team’s hard work throughout the season paid off in their convincing win against Centaurus. With steady ball movement and strong defense, the JV Monarch basketball squad had a team season-high scoring effort. Addi Rivera led the team with 16 points, 11 rebounds, and 6 blocks as the Monarch girls' JV basketball team earned their fourth win of the season, outscoring Centaurus 44-32.

The Varsity girls’ game was more entertaining than anticipated. Friday was Centaurus’s senior night and these girls played their best game of the season in the last one of their high school career. Centaurus kept within 10 through much of the game until our Monarch girls’ basketball varsity team stepped up the intensity. Led by Sienna Williams’s near triple-double sinking 30 points, snatching 15 rebounds, and swatting 8 blocks, Monarch improved to 11-2 in league play with a 46-30 win over Centaurus.

The Monarch girls’ basketball program's success this season puts them 19th in the 6A division with an opportunity to play post-season hoops. Due to this ranking, Monarch earned a bye for the first round of the tournament. Their first game of the post-season tournament is scheduled for Saturday when they travel to Columbine High School to take on the 14th-ranked Rebel Pride. The crowd energy is so impactful and we encourage everyone to come support these girls in their state tournament play next weekend.
