Happy New Year and Welcome Back! We are excited to welcome our students back to campus and begin a fresh start to the second semester. January is a time for goal-setting, reflection, and renewed focus, and we look forward to partnering with you to support student success. We have another busy month upcoming. Please read the following items that are happening here in January.
MS Level Up Showcase Parent Night will take place on January 13.
6th Grade: 5:30–6:30 PM
7th & 8th Grade: 6:45–7:30 PM
This event provides families an opportunity to visit with teachers and program sponsors to learn more about course offerings. Attending will help ensure you have all the information needed when it’s time to select courses. We invite you to come explore the many exciting programs SMS has to offer. The course selection will be available to complete on January 14th-20th.
As part of our commitment to supporting each student’s academic growth, SMS will be administering the MAP (Measures of Academic Progress) tests for our middle school students on the following dates:
English Testing: January 28
Math Testing: January 29
The MAP test helps us understand your child’s current academic levels in key areas such as reading and mathematics. These assessments are essential tools that allow us to modify instruction to meet your child's unique learning needs and track their progress over time. We will have different bell schedules on these days.
To help your child perform their best, please ensure the following:
They get a good night's sleep before the test.
They have a healthy breakfast on the morning of the test.
They bring a fully charged device and any required materials.
The UIL Academics Meet will be held on January 24 at SMS! We are excited to see our students showcase their talents and hard work. A heartfelt thank-you goes out to our dedicated staff for their incredible effort in preparing our students for success. We need your support with hospitality. Please complete the link to help us provide meals for our volunteers on this day.
Reminder: Daily attendance is essential for learning and success. Please help ensure students arrive on time and are present each day unless they are ill. If your child must be absent, remember to submit a note to the attendance office.
