PA Student-Centered Learning
During the 2023-24 school year, Intermediate Units began the process of finding and interviewing school districts on the topic of student-centered learning. Many schools from across the Commonwealth shared their stories with us and we then published those stories in an online publication. Continuing into the 2024-25 school year, the project has grown into a virtual network of educators and schools that are willing to share and wanting to learn more about student-centered learning. If this all sounds interesting to you please click the red button below to begin reading on how you can get involved in this network or schedule a visit to a PA school that has started down this path.

ADA Digital Accessibility Law
Public entities (or “state and local governments”) offer many services on their websites and mobile applications (or “apps”). But these services are not always accessible to people with disabilities.
In April 2024, the Department of Justice (or “Department”) published a rule that sets technical requirements for state and local governments to follow to make sure that their websites and mobile apps are accessible to people with disabilities. This resource can help state and local governments figure out what they should do to comply with the rule.
"CR-SE" = "Common Ground"
The Common Ground Framework Guidelines are not required to be included in LEA continuing education plans. However, LEAs are required to comply to 22 Pa. Code §§ 49.16(c) and 49.17(a)(6), which states:
“The continuing professional education plan must include a section which describes how the professional education needs of the school entity, including those of diverse learners, and its professional employees are to be met through implementation of the plan. The plan must describe how professional development activities will improve language and literacy acquisition for all students, including the provision of training in structured literacy for professional employees who hold instructional certificates in Early Childhood, Elementary/Middle, Special Education PK—12, English as a second language and Reading Specialists. The plan must contribute to closing achievement gaps among students, and improve professional employees knowledge of professional ethics and culturally relevant and sustaining education.”
This is true for induction plans as well.
Therefore, LEAs do not need to use the guidelines but are required to have a training in both the continuing education plan and the induction plan.
