Dear Eagles,

Whether you're traveling with friends and/or family, doing some much needed spring cleaning, working, or just hanging out with your friends, give yourself permission to relax. We will be heavy in test season upon your return.

Between 4/4 and 4/10, our students will take a number of required standardized assessments. It is critical that students arrive at school on time during their testing days. See below for the details of each testing day, and please refer all testing-related questions to AP Meadows (mmeadows@cps.edu).

Friday, April 4th:

  • 8th graders will take the Illinois Science Assessment (ISA) during their flex periods. Students will report to the Maroon gym for testing at the start of A flex

Tuesday, April 8th:

  • 11th graders will take the ACT. They should report to the cafeteria by 7:30am. Students will then report to their testing rooms at 8am. Standard time testing students will be dismissed after they complete the exam at 1:05pm.
  • 7th and 8th graders will take the first section of the IAR. They will report to school for normal hours, and will take the IAR in the afternoon after the ACT ends. They will be dismissed at normal time.

Wednesday, April 9th

  • A small group of 11th graders with extended time will complete the ACT in the morning.
  • 7th and 8th graders will take the next two sections of the IAR. They will take one section during AM Colloquium and the next section during PM Colloquium. They should report to school for normal hours.

Thursday, April 10th

  • 9th and 10th graders will take the Pre-ACT. They should report to the cafeteria by 7:30am. Students will then report to their testing rooms at 8am. Standard time testing students will be dismissed after they complete the exam at 11:35am.

  • 7th and 8th graders will take the final two sections of the IAR. They will report to school for normal hours, and will take the IAR in the afternoon after the Pre-ACT ends. They will be dismissed at normal time.

Onward and upward,

Congratulations to Kennedy Grooms! Kennedy won the contest for Chicago's Next Voices featured in the Chicago Sun-Times. Use this link to follow the report.

Shout-outs to our JROTC cadets for their wonderful rendition of the movie "Six Triple Eight" created by Tajourney Wallace!

Shout-outs to AC Boys Basketball for an amazing fight to the finish! They came up short, but none the less, they are still Network 11 Champs and City Playoff Runner Ups.

Hazel Health Parent Referral Link

Parent referrals launched yesterday: We are now live with what I will call "Phase I," where parents/guardians can make self-referrals for their students. If parents think their child could benefit from these mental health services, they may request teletherapy and explore more information about the program at getstarted.hazel.co/district/cps.

The OSD Art Project

The OSD Art Project: We ALL are Special was created as a unique way to showcase the awareness of our CPS students with disabilities. The artwork created through this project will be hung throughout the OSD offices, in the loop and throughout the city, and shared with CPS leadership, as a visual and inspiring reminder of the more than 62,000 students with disabilities and the work we need to do to ensure a rightful presence for each and everyone of them. Mrs Crone-Griffin, Miss Gerleve, and Mr Sutphen's Art classes worked hard to create these 6 canvases.

Traffic Plans

Our last PAC meeting (see the recording HERE) was spent discussing the morning drop-off and afternoon pick-up situation. We are working on a few things to address the situation:

  1. We are drafting a revised morning drop-off and afternoon pick-up policy for families to follow. Families following the new policy will help to make drop-off/pick-up more efficient.
  2. We are collaborating with the Alderwoman and the community to consider possible changes to traffic flow and parking restrictions.
  3. We are forming a parent task-force to support morning drop-off. This will include a group of parents/family members who will be given special vests to support the enforcement of efficient morning drop-off.

You can sign-up to join the parent task force or to be part of the committee of parent/guardians which reviews and finalizes our drop-off/pick-up policy by entering your name HERE. You can reach out to AP Meadows (mmeadows@cps.edu) or our PAC Chair Keith Kysel (kkysel@cps.edu) with any questions or suggestions.
