RILEY RECAP - VOLUME 3 ISSUE 15
February 23, 2024
From the Desk of Principal Henderson
Dear Riley Parents, Guardians, and Scholars:
Happy Friday! I can not believe we are already approaching the final week of February. We only have a short three months left of this school year. This past week we got to host our MidWinter Semi-Formal dance at Riverside Terrace. The students and staff were dressed up and the students were dancing the night away. I am thankful to see our scholars come out and have fun as a whole during these events.
On March 5, 2024 our Juniors will be taking the SAT here at Riley. It will be an asynchronous day for all other grades. It is important for our students to be prepared and do their best on this test as it directly impacts our schools grade. If you would like for your scholar to leave as they are done testing please send in a note or email to Mrs. Murphy (tmurphy@sb.school) or Mrs. Scott (rmontgomeryscott@sb.school) between now and March 4, 2024. All exit passes need to be submitting in writing (digital or original) prior to test day. Please begin sending them in ASAP.
Last Friday night, we had the opportunity to honor Blake Wesley by retiring his #0 jersey here at Riley. Seeing Blake back in the Riley gym and talking with students and players alike in South Bend was a very neat experience and one I am sure all the students and staff will not forget anytime soon. Thank you Blake for all you have done for Riley High School and the South Bend community as a whole.
This week our boys basketball team wrapped up their regular season with a big win on Senior Night bringing their season record to 20-4. We have a lot to be proud of with these young men, but next week the new season, the postseason, starts. We will play next Friday nigh (3/1/24) at 7:30pm at Mishawaka. Tonight and Tomorrow our Boys Swim Team is competing for the 49th straight year at the State Finals. We have a lot to be proud of in our 4 swimmers competing and are excited to see what they bring back to Riley.
WE WILL RAISE THE BAR AT RILEY!
I am looking forward to working with you and your student as we work toward an academically successful school year. I can promise you the best of myself for your students each and every day. Please do not hesitate to contact me at shenderson2@sbcsc.k12.in.us if you have any questions or concerns during the year.
Our Goals:
1) Get students reading on grade level
2) A 95% attendance rate
3) A 90% graduation rate
We greatly appreciate the value that each and every one of our scholars and families brings to Riley. WE ARE THE PRIDE OF THE SOUTHSIDE! WE ARE #RILEYSTRONG!
Sincerely,
Shawn Henderson

UPCOMING EVENTS
FAMILY FRIENDLY SCHOOLS SURVEY
You will be receiving an email from Mr. Hardman regarding our designation as an IDOE Family Friendly School. We are required to send out surveys for our students and families to fill out to help talk about Riley and give us your honest feedback. We are hoping to continue our two-year running of being identified as a family-friendly school and the ONLY high school in South Bend to do so. Please help us out by filling out the survey below.
SAT TEST DAY
We are just a few weeks away from all of Junior class students participating in SAT school test day. All juniors will be required to be at school and taking the SAT on March 5, 2024. It will be an asynchronous E-Learning day for all other students. Only the junior class will be coming into school that day.
This is part a large part of our overall school grade and we hope that all our scholars take it seriously, get good rest and put forth their best efforts as we take the test next month. Please work with your student to make sure they have their Chromebook all ready fixed and charged and ready for test day.
BROWNING SCHOLARSHIP AWARDED
Congratulations to Class of 2024, Sarah Kline on being awarded a full tuition scholarship to Marian University to pursue her dreams of being a teacher.
