The Wayne-Westland Wrap Up- September 26, 2025
Dear Wayne-Westland Families,
What a great start to the school year! I have enjoyed visiting our schools and seeing our students engaged, motivated, and learning every day. It’s inspiring to see the energy, enthusiasm, and dedication demonstrated by our students and staff. Great things are happening across our district.
We appreciate your support in making this a smooth and successful start to our school year. As we settle into our routines, I want to emphasize the importance of regular school attendance. Our students need to be in the classroom every day to keep up with their learning, build friendships and grow their confidence. Consistent attendance enables students to focus and learn effectively, laying the foundation for lifelong achievement.
Please continue working with us to make attendance a top priority. When we ensure our students are present and supported, we give them the best opportunity to reach their highest potential.
Thank you for partnering with us as we strive to make this a great year for every child in Wayne-Westland Community Schools.
Sincerely,
Catherine Cost, Ed.D.
Interim Superintendent
Wayne-Westland Community Schools to Place Bond Proposal on November 4 Ballot
On November 4, 2025, voters in the Wayne-Westland Community Schools district will consider a bond proposal designed to enhance student learning environments and provide critical infrastructure upgrades that prioritize health, safety, security, and energy efficiency throughout the district.
If approved, the $125 million bond will allow the District to fund essential improvements without increasing the current school debt millage rate. This means there would be no tax rate increase for homeowners.
Proposal Highlights
If approved, Bond 2025 will fund several significant improvements across the District, including:
Infrastructure upgrades such as roofs, parking lots, and technology systems
Flexible classroom furniture in all buildings to support collaborative and personalized learning
Technology enhancements, including instructional devices and network improvements
A major renovation at Walker-Winter Elementary School, creating a more consistent learning environment across all elementary schools
Installation of systems to improve energy management and climate control throughout the district
For more information, including a complete list of Frequently Asked Questions and project details, please visit the Bond 2025 website.

Emergency Protocols
We are committed to keeping our families informed about essential emergency preparedness procedures to ensure everyone knows what to do in case of an emergency. This includes guidance on what actions to take (and what to avoid), the timeline to expect during a lockdown, and an overview of the safety drills conducted across our schools each year.
The District Crisis Team has developed these important documents and they are posted on our district website. We encourage all families to review this information to be fully prepared and informed.
Please take a few moments to go over these materials, so we can work together to prioritize the safety and well-being of our students and staff.

Household Information Report- More Than Free Meals
We ask all Wayne-Westland families to complete a Household Information Report each year to ensure continued funding to support all students in our district. Complete the Online Household Reporting Form. (Directions and Screenshots) as soon as possible. Completion of this form is needed to ensure that the district can maintain its free meal status for all in-person students and provide additional funding to our district.
If you are unable to complete this process online, please fill out the Education Benefits Form and drop it off at your child's school.
Only one form is required per household. If you have students in multiple buildings, please return it to one building only.
