Hawkins Happenings
October 16, 2026
A HUGE thank you to our PTO for sponsoring Tuesday's BMX Assembly. The students had a blast watching the amazing tricks, and the excitement didn't stop there. Some of our students even had the chance to cover Mr. Renner in silly string!
And the fun isn't over yet. We've got some great events coming up, so grab your calendars.
Here's what's coming up:
Brighton Homecoming Parade: TONIGHT, Friday, October 16, at 6:00 p.m. The parade will travel through downtown Brighton, rain or shine. Wear your Brighton gear and come show your Bulldog pride!
PTO Trunk or Treat: Friday, October 23. Get those costumes ready for another great evening with our Hawkins families. Please see the flyer below for more details.
Hawkins Halloween Parade: Friday, October 30, at 9:20 a.m. We're bringing back the Halloween parade! Families are welcome to line the sidewalks around Hawkins and watch our students show off their costumes. As a reminder, costumes should not include blood, gore, or weapons. Inflatable costumes are welcome. Please have your child arrive at school in their costume and ready to go so we can get started on time. If it rains, the parade will be canceled. Be sure to check with your child's teacher about any classroom parties.
Parent-Teacher Conferences: Don't Forget to Sign Up! Conferences are right around the corner. If you haven't already, please sign up for a time to meet with your child's teacher. It's a great opportunity to hear how your child is doing, celebrate their progress, and talk about ways we can support them throughout the year. We look forward to seeing you!
It's been a busy and exciting October, and we're grateful for all the ways our families and PTO help make these experiences possible. Thanks for sharing your wonderful children with us each day. We love having them here as we laugh and learn together!
Brighton Brew is Back!
This student-run coffee shop is operated every Friday by our amazing students with special needs. Designed as a hands-on learning experience, Bulldog Brew gives students the opportunity to build real-life skills such as communication, teamwork, and customer service, all while spreading a little joy through coffee.
Hawkins staff look forward to their weekly Bulldog Brew, served with a smile. It's a great way for our students to practice new skills, build confidence, and be part of something special at Hawkins.
A big thank you to our wonderful parents, Mrs. Lutz and Mrs. Morningstar, for baking delicious cookies and muffins to enjoy with our Bulldog Brew coffee.
Run Club is off to a great start!
Run Club Week 4 Achievements!
We were so happy to get in two more days of running this week! The miles are adding up, and we love seeing our Huskies out there moving!
Keep those legs moving! We’ll continue tracking every mile after the goal is reached, and those extra miles will count toward earning incentives for our spring season. Every lap counts!
We Still Need Volunteers!
We have volunteer time slots available for our remaining sessions! Come join the fun, help keep our runners safe, track those laps, and cheer our students on as they finish the fall season strong!
Let’s make these last four sessions count, Huskies!

Attendance Line: 810-299-3904

Lunch Times
The entire lunch period is 45 minutes. Students have about 20 minutes to eat and about 20 minutes outside, with a few minutes in between for transitions.
Our kitchen staff has done a great job getting things running smoothly and reducing wait time.
Early Student Pick-Up
We know appointments come up during the school day, and sometimes an early pick-up is unavoidable. To help us protect classroom learning time, we are asking families to let us know about planned early dismissals as early as possible.
If you know your child will need to leave early for an appointment or another non-emergency reason, please call the office in advance. Our office will prepare a pass and get it to the teacher without interrupting instruction. At the appropriate time, the teacher will give the pass to your child, and your child can report to the office to meet you.
As we get closer to dismissal, things become very busy throughout the building. For that reason, we ask that any planned early pick-ups take place before 3:30 p.m. After 3:30 p.m., we will avoid interrupting classrooms for non-emergency, last-minute dismissal changes and ask that students follow their normal dismissal routine.
This small step helps us avoid calling into classrooms while teachers are in the middle of a lesson and keeps learning moving for everyone. It also helps us get your child ready to go when you arrive—so you can make it to those pesky dentist appointments on time!

The McKinny-Vento Act-Support for Families in Temporary Living Situations
Brighton Area Schools is part of a consortium that supports students and families experiencing temporary living situations. Assistance may include financial support for educational needs, referrals for housing and clothing, and other resources and services.
To help ensure students receive the support they need, school staff work to identify students who may be living in situations such as emergency shelters or transitional housing, motels or hotels, cars, parks or other public spaces, or shared housing due to a loss of housing or economic hardship.
The district’s homeless liaison is Starr Acromite, and each school has trained staff members available to help families access support and resources.
For additional information or assistance, please contact Starr Acromite at 810-299-4040.
