Scholastic Book Fair

HCS will host the Scholastic Book Fair this week, Monday, November 13th-Friday, November 17th. Students will be able to browse for interesting books, and then they will have time to purchase those books. Please be on the lookout for information from your child(ren)'s teacher, specific to their classroom(s). Our hope is to get the HCS library up-and-running again, so if you are looking to make a book donation to the school's library, that would be greatly appreciated!

Safety First

I am sharing this information from Superintendent Mucha regarding safety and security in the schools again.

  • Families, please note that QRSD has a goal to improve safety and security within their buildings and campuses.

  • This is a direct result of a recent safety audit that the district underwent at the end of the summer.

  • All schools will be or may have been practicing shelter in place and other responses to a wide variety of emergencies. These drills will continue throughout the year.

  • Building administrators are implementing strategies to ensure that these drills are understood and do not cause distress to our students, especially our youngest learners.

Evacuation Drill

Before the month of November ends, HCS will be practicing a school-wide evacuation drill. The purpose of this drill is to practice evacuating the school in case there is a significant threat to the building (gas leak, intruder, etc.). Myself, Hubbardston's Chief of Police, Chief Couture, and Director of Buildings, Grounds, and Safety, Kevin Clark, developed this plan and will make any adjustments after the drill. Prior to the evacuation drill, I will be meeting with each grade level to review why we practice safety drills and to discuss the basics of the evacuation plan so that students and staff feel prepared and understand it is a drill to keep us as safe as possible. Please know this will be done age appropriately, in "kid friendly" terms, and with great care.

Cold Weather

With the colder weather upon us, be sure to send your child(ren) to school with clothing warm enough for outdoor recess, including a heavier jacket, mittens/gloves, and a hat. If you are having trouble purchasing any of these winter items, please do not hesitate to reach out to the school for help.

Parent Teacher Conferences

Parent Teacher Conferences will be held during the afternoon and evening of Wednesday, December 13, here at HCS. Teachers will be contacting families with information and sign-up options. These meetings can be in-person, virtual, or as phone calls. It is important that we build a strong relationship between home and school, and working closely with families is a top priority for the HCS staff. We encourage all families to schedule a conference.
