Ms. Brown's Informative Essays
For the 3rd marking period, English 3 and 4 dove into Informational Text and Journalism focused on Climate Change as their informational topic! Students had the opportunity to pick a topic they were interested in for English and explore a climate change issue of their choice in Journalism. They put together engaging slide presentations to highlight the most important facts they discovered and wrote either a summary or an essay to share their findings. It was a great way for everyone to explore their interests and learn more about important issues all with the intentions of sharing information with others.
“Coraline”:
I really enjoyed my informative project on Coraline. In creating the slides I learned so much new information about the production process and that the whole movie is 3D. I've known and watched the movie Coraline so many times that writing the essay came easy. - Karla, English 3 & 4
Climate Change and Fast Fashion”:
I really enjoyed learning about this topic because it told me things I didn't know, such as how in fast fashion during the lifetime of the clothing these fibers are responsible for 35 percent of the microplastics contaminating our oceans and they can take centuries to decompose in landfills. - I’zanae, Journalism
Role of Technology Combating Climate Change”:
I really enjoyed finding out more about technologies that will combat climate change. I knew about solar and wind power but there is cleaner energy and a lot more inventive ways to use them like micro grids. - Sebastian, English 4 & Journalism
Ms. Molloy's Class Corner
Ms. Molloy’s English 1 students finished reading Thirteen Reasons Why and are completing a Google Slides Project Presentation to highlight a theme, a significant chapter, or a fictional News story based on the novel. English 2 classes are reading The Kite Runner. Students have also watched a portion of the film and done some comparisons between the book and the film. The focus of reading has been character analysis, theme identification, and literary analysis. In Psychology, students completed a partner project based on the topic of Mindfulness, Grit, Positive Psychology, or a specific researcher. Students have also enjoyed viewing and discussing Psychology related Ted Talks focused on Motivation, Positive Psychology and Grit. All classes were encouraged to write Smart Goals for extra credit.

We just completed our unit on the Final Solution for Holocaust and Genocide Studies. We are starting our next unit on the Liberation of the Death Camps and the importance of collecting visual and written testimony to ensure that the world understands the atrocities of the Holocaust.
Planning for the Future in Mr. Blum's Financial Literacy Classes
Ms. Blum's classes have been learning about career planning and resume building this last month. Students are creating their own resumes, scouring job postings to see qualifications for future careers and researching steps to take in order to achieve their financial goals after Hope.
A Word from Nurse Fatima
The Hope Academy Health Office is dedicated to supporting the well-being of our students by conducting health screenings for vision, hearing, and scoliosis, in addition to providing care during regular clinic hours for emergency sick visits. These screenings are part of our ongoing commitment to ensure the health and development of each child.
Beyond our typical health services, we also view lunchtime as an opportunity to focus on students’ social and emotional growth. Students frequently drop by during lunch as we create a safe and welcoming space for students to share their thoughts, express concerns, and ask questions related to their social emotional well-being and physical health. This time allows us to provide guidance, offer support, and give feedback, fostering a positive environment for students to develop resilience, learn coping strategies, and build confidence.
Our goal is not only to address immediate health concerns but also to help cultivate a holistic sense of well-being that nurtures both the body and mind.
