Principal Update 5/20/24
We continue to be in the midst of a very busy season here at school. We are looking forward to some field trips this weeks in grades K, 2, and 4 as well as some big events for our fourth graders. The weather is looking to make a turn to the warmer side, so please be sure you are considering this when helping your children choose clothing. Our third floor gets very warm and after a few days in the 80s it can feel pretty uncomfortable. Please be sure your child has a water bottle and is wearing lighter weight clothing, in particular if they are in third or fourth grade.
Parent Survey- One Final Week
The School Council (a board of parents, teachers, and administrators) is seeking your feedback on this year. We do consider your feedback carefully and a lot of recommendations that we receive are put into place. Over the past few years we have tried to beef up consistent communication and expectations from classroom to classroom in each grade and our school improvement plan goals are derived from the feedback we receive. Please consider sharing your feedback with us here.
Book Fair Information and Volunteers Needed!
Please note that due to changes in Scholastic's policies, TAXES WILL BE CHARGED FOR ALL BOOKS PURCHASED
Every fall and spring the Memorial PTO holds a Scholastic Book Fair to support our library and Literacy Fund. The fall fair will be held from Monday, May 20th to Friday, May 24th, with a make up day on Tuesday, May 28th. We rely on parent volunteers to help our children select appropriate books within their reading level and budget. Every person entering the school must have an updated CORI report. Siblings may not attend.

Specialist Night
Our specialists are hard at work preparing for our specialist night to be held on May 30th from 4:15-6:45pm. This is a great night of celebration for our students. They will have an opportunity to show off all they have learned in art, music, physical education, technology, and library class this year. We are making some adjustments to the schedule to try to reduce the crowd in the hallways all at once. It is also a great night to check out our spring book fair to stock up on your summer reading!
Schedule
Grades K and 4: 4:15-5:30pm
Grades 1, 2 and 3: 5:40-6:45pm
Fourth Grade Events
This Tuesday morning our fourth graders will be traveling to Miscoe Hill Middle School for a Move Up Day where they will meet teachers, counselors, administration, and get an overview of a school day as a fifth grader. They will also be touring the building.
Our Fourth Grade Chorus will be performing a joint concert with the fourth grade chorus from Clough at Nipmuc High School on Thursday Night at 7pm. This is always a great opportunity to meet new classmates and begin the transition into "one" class.
Parents of fourth graders, please mark the date of the fourth grade send off, June 11th, on your calendar. We are making a change this year that I hope will be well received. We will be holding a ceremony for our fourth graders at 9:20am in the cafeteria ahead of them boarding buses for Kiwanis. We invite all parents of fourth graders to attend. We will hand out certificates of completion and say a few words about this special class and then we will have parents join our students in a clap out in the hallways as the 4th graders get on the school buses for Kiwanis. We look forward to having all of our fourth grade families be a part of this day.
Recycled Materials Still Needed
Our second graders are completing their final unit in math this month, and it is a project where they have to design and build marble runs. We are looking for donations of toilet paper and paper towel rolls. Please send them in instead of tossing them in the trash! We also have an upcoming Inspired Learning Day in June and are in need of recyclable materials for a few of our sessions. Please feel free to send in clean recycled materials with your child for use on that day. Some possible items to send in include:
plastic bags
toilet paper/paper towel rolls
yogurt containers
cereal boxes
milk/beverage cartons
shoe boxes
tissue boxes
compact discs
Have a wonderful week!
Warmly,
Wendy

School Hours
Our school hours are 8:45am-3:15pm. Drop off begins at 8:45 and students who arrive after 9:00am are considered tardy. We will begin dismissal right around 3:15pm.
Due to the hectic nature of the late afternoon, we will no longer be allowing parent dismissals from the main office after 2:45pm. If your child has an appointment, please plan to dismiss him/her earlier, or make use of our pick up line at 3:15pm. Thank you for understanding.
