A Message from Principal Chad May

Dear Barrington Middle School Station Campus Families,

🎉 The Final Stretch: Let’s Finish Strong! 🎉

Encouraging Great Choices for End-of-Year Fun

Can you believe it? We’re in the final quarter of the school year! As we head into the home stretch, there’s a lot for our students to look forward to—field trips, celebrations, special activities, and fun traditions that make the end of the year so memorable.

With all this excitement, we want to remind families that positive behavior and strong effort in class are key to participating in these events. Students are expected to show up each day ready to learn, make good choices, and finish the year with their best foot forward.

We need your help encouraging your child to:

  • Stay focused and finish assignments on time

  • Follow school expectations and classroom rules

  • Show kindness, responsibility, and respect each day

These last few weeks are packed with opportunities—not just for fun, but for growth and accomplishment. Let’s work together to help every student finish the year proud and ready to celebrate!

Thanks for your continued support—we’re almost there! 🌟

Assessments at Station

It is time for the NWEA Measure of Academic Progress (MAP) to be administered. All students in second through eighth grade will be assessed between April 23rd to May 10th. The MAP assessment gives us information about each student's instructional level in reading and math and also measures academic growth throughout the year. According to the developer of the MAP test, NWEA, this assessment, although not timed was designed to be completed in less than an hour and adapts to the level of performance of your child. Your child's teacher will be sharing the specific dates that the class will be taking each test. The test results will be shared with you in the form of a Student Progress Report prior to the end of the school year.

Students at BMS-Station school will be taking the MAP assessments on

April 30th and May 1st during periods 1-3.

As a reminder, here are actions parents can take to ensure a positive testing situation for their child:

  • Make sure your child attends school on testing day, unless s/he is ill.

  • Make sure your child gets a good night's sleep the night before testing.

  • Make sure your child eats a good breakfast on mornings of testing.

  • Make an effort to help your child feel relaxed and unrushed by allowing plenty of time

for daily routines.

  • Give your child words of encouragement to let him/her know you have confidence in

his/her ability to do his/her best.

Students will be using their iPads for this test. Please make sure they are fully charged and ready to go.

Although this test is not timed, it is designed to be completed in about 45 minutes, most students are done in about an hour. Students will have no more than 2 hours to complete this test.

These assessments give us critical information that can help us help your child. Please make every effort to have your child be in attendance on testing days unless they are ill.

What Happens on a Half Day for Students? A Look Inside Our Teacher Institute Days

Dear Station Campus Families,

As we look ahead to our upcoming Half Day Teacher Institute on Wednesday, April 17, 2025, I want to take a moment to share a bit about the important work our staff will be doing while students are dismissed early.

These institute days are a key part of our commitment to continuous school improvement. At Station, our work is guided by a clear focus: building collective teacher efficacy and empowering student agency in learning. In short, we believe that when educators work together with a shared belief in their impact—and when students are active participants in their own learning—great things happen.

On this particular Institute Day, our team will be diving into ways to strengthen and enhance our student advisory program, known as Colt Time. Colt Time is more than just a block on the schedule; it’s a dedicated space where we connect with students, build community, and support their growth beyond academics.

Our goal on April 17 is to collaborate on meaningful improvements to this program—ensuring that Colt Time continues to be a powerful part of each student’s experience. We’ll be examining best practices, sharing feedback, and designing experiences that support both social-emotional learning and student ownership.

We value these opportunities to reflect, learn, and grow together as a staff. Thank you for your continued support as we work to make Station Campus a place where every student feels known, valued, and inspired to succeed.

Warm regards,
Chad May

Celebrating Our 8th Grade Graduates!

The time has come to celebrate our incredible 8th-grade students as they prepare to move on to high school! We are excited to announce that our 8th-grade recognition ceremony will take place on Wednesday, May 28, at 7:00 PM at Barrington High School. Families are encouraged to attend this special evening as we recognize the hard work and achievements of our graduating students.

To ensure a smooth and memorable event, students should arrive at BHS by 6:30 PM, dressed nicely for the occasion. This is a momentous milestone, and we look forward to celebrating each student’s journey and accomplishments together.

There will be a 8th grade field trip to Main Event the day the recognition ceremony. More details will follow in the coming weeks.

Attendance Procedures

Barrington 220 values student attendance. For a student to have a successful experience, the student must be present in class. Any absence from school is a missed learning opportunity for your child. Attending school regularly helps children feel better about school—and themselves.

We know that students are absent from school for a number of reasons, from health concerns to transportation challenges. Many people in our schools are prepared to help you if you or your student face challenges in getting to school regularly or on time. Depending on your student’s grade or school, this may include your principal, assistant principal, counselor, teacher, or all of the above. We are always available to assist and support your child in fulfilling our mission of empowering personal excellence in every learner. For more information please click here.

Sign Out Procedures

If you plan to pick up your child up early from school, we ask that you please put in an Absence Request in the Parent Portal on Infinite Campus. When you arrive to pick up your child, please come to the front door with your cell phone. Ms. Jarva or Ms. Alters will buzz you in and you will scan a QR code (located on table near front door) that is linked to a sign-out form that you complete while you wait for your child to come down from class. Please note, only individuals listed on Infinite Campus (IC) will be allowed to pick up your child. If you need assistance with the parent portal, please contact the Infinite Campus Hotline at (847)-842 3580.

Thank you!

Visitor Procedures

In our district’s continued effort to keep our students and staff safe, remember to bring your driver’s license or state ID when you come to visit/volunteer at Station. The reason for this is we run your ID through our sex offender background check system. After your ID is scanned, you will be issued a visitor lanyard and visitor sticker before being admitted into the building. Every D220 school follows these procedures. For the safety of our students, there are no exceptions.
