MCAS
Third and fourth grade students completed the English Language Arts portion of the MCAS assessment in April. Students will take two sessions of the Math MCAS on May 6 and 13. Please make sure that students get a good night sleep, have a good breakfast, and arrive to school on time.
From the Counseling Department
Our virtual mental health partner Cartwheel regularly offers articles and/or webinars designed to empower parents/caregivers in offering support, guidance, and tools to navigate various student challenges. The attached free webinar on Connection, Co-Regulation and Coping Skills: Helping Kids and Teens Navigate Big Feelings offers helpful strategies we can teach our kids for noticing, welcoming, and neutralizing big emotions before they take over the household. We hope you find the information helpful. If you need more information on our virtual mental health partner, Cartwheel, please reach out to us!
2025-2026 Planning
Planning is underway for the 2025-2026 school year. Thank you for taking the time to complete parent input forms. Through the weeks ahead, the Phelps staff will devote a great deal of time and energy to class placements so that a careful and thoughtful placement can be made for every student. Our goal is for every child to be in a supportive, challenging, and successful environment. Class placements will be finalized over the summer and emailed to families in August.
From the Nurse
Itβs nice to see the sun come out and feel the warmer weather. With the warmer temperatures, please continue to send water bottles in with your kiddos to school. The mornings tend to be cooler with the afternoons turning warm, so dressing in layers may help your kiddos stay more comfortable throughout the day.
As we start to get closer to the end of the year, I wanted to send out the first reminder to please turn in current physical forms for your child if you havenβt already done so. Notices will be going home soon for students who need to bring in an up-to-date physical form. New physicals are required every 3 years. This is also the first reminder that any student with medication in the nurseβs office including inhalers and epi-pens should be picked up at the end of the year, just prior to beginning summer vacation.
Thankfully, it seems that the cold and flu season is coming to an end. Unfortunately, however, with the end of that season, we are at the start of allergy season. Hopefully, it wonβt be too bad a year for those allergies. If there is anything I can do to help you and your kiddo through this season, please let me know. You can always reach me in my office by phone at 413-821-9368 or via email tjasperson@agawamed.org. I hope everyone enjoyed their spring break and that we all stay happy and healthy as we inch closer to the end of the school year!

Phelps Attendance Update - End of April
We know that showing up matters, and that when students show up to learn, they are more likely to be able to stay on-track, stay engaged and meet major educational milestones.
We are at 95.17% average daily attendance as a school.
Letβs finish the year strong! As we wrap up the school year, students will take part in several benchmark assessments to measure their progress since the fall and winter. Consistent attendance is essential, so please ensure your child comes to school every day.

Crystal Apple Award for April π
Our Staff Crystal Apple Award for the month of April goes to Ms. Laura O'Connor!
She is a true fan favorite, consistently creating a classroom environment filled with warmth, respect, and high expectations.
Ms. O'Connor both gives and earns the respect of her students, who flourish under her thoughtful guidance. She challenges our youngest learners academically, socially, and emotionallyβhelping them grow into confident little humans. The consistent growth her students demonstrate is a direct result of her intentional teaching and deep commitment to their development.
What sets her apart even further is her spirit. She is always open to sharing ideas, supporting colleagues, and contributing positively to the school community. Her warm welcome and exceptional sense of humor with both students and staff, sets a tone of kindness and inclusivity that radiates throughout the building.
Major Upgrade!
We recently made another MAJOR upgrade at Phelps. This fall our student government met and voted on new cafeteria tables. The new upgrade includes ADA accessible tables as well to accommodate everyone! The tables arrived just before April vacation and the students LOVE them!
