Distinguished Graduates
The Distinguished Graduate Award originated in 2015. It was developed to honor and recognize graduating seniors by acknowledging all of their dedication and hard work throughout the year.
The purpose of the Distinguished Graduate Award is to highlight the student in each program area that exemplifies the technical, academic, and professionalism skills at the highest level. The Distinguished Graduate Award recipients represent the most accomplished students from Cascadia Tech.
Students were either chosen by their instructor or by the program’s Advisory Committee.
Dennis Kampe Scholarship Recipients
The Dennis Kampe Scholarship started in 2000 as the General Advisory Committee Scholarship. It was renamed in 2024 in honor of Dennis Kampe’s 40 years of service to Cascadia Tech Academy and Cascadia Tech Academy Foundation.
This scholarship awards outstanding seniors in their program area and is intended for students who have post-secondary plans and exemplify the very best of their program. Recipients are initially interviewed and selected by each program’s Advisory Committee. Scholarships can be used to purchase tools, pay for books or tuition in order to support students as they go to colleges, universities, technical schools, or enter an apprenticeship program.
This year we were able to give $37,000 in scholarships to 18 students thanks to our sponsors and Cascadia Tech Academy Foundation.

Founding Director
Visionary Leadership Award
Founding Director, Mike Bjur, was presented with a Visionary Leadership Award and a plaque honoring past directors that will be hung in the 200 building.
Terry Nelson, Retired, said, "Back in the 1980s, Mike Bjur sold the Clark County superintendents on a vocational skill center. That challenge was followed by convincing principals to give students an option to leave their home schools for expanded learning. And then there was a facility and program to put together. Mike led the team in accomplishing it all. As principal at Evergreen HS, I watched and supported the monumental undertaking. Forty years later, the success of Cascadia Tech is a testimony to Mike’s vision and leadership."
The Washington State School Retirees’ Association recently held a meeting on our campus. Many members have been curious about Cascadia Tech Academy. Director Joan Huston shared an overview of the opportunities Cascadia Tech offers. Five current students (Isaac Axman, Aviation Science & Technology, - April Carvel, Criminal Justice, Madalana Rodriguez, Cosmetology, Noah Maclean, Diesel Technology, and Harley McCants, Medical Assisting shared their success stories along with Joan, Paul Huddleston, Dean of Students, and Chef Andrew McColley, who are all past students.
Mike shared, "Obviously, this has been the highlight of my career, having the opportunity to plan this facility, to staff it, run it for nine years, and to watch it grow and prosper. And more importantly, to see people like Joan, Paul and Andrew, and others who have come back and are taking it to bigger and better things. So it's really especially an honor for me to receive this, and I appreciate it."
Cascadia Technical Academy honors its past directors for their years of service and visionary leadership. This award recognizes the excellence, innovation, and a passionate spirit of individuals who have guided Cascadia Tech—formerly known as the Clark County Skills Center—through significant growth and transformation. Their leadership has been instrumental in expanding career and technical education opportunities for students across Southwest Washington. By acknowledging these leaders, Cascadia Tech not only pays tribute to its rich history but also reinforces the importance of strong, forward-thinking leadership in shaping opportunities for future generations of skilled professionals.
Joan Huston, Director
Computer Technology 1985-1986
Word Processing 1986-1987
Secretary 1989-1997
"None of this would be possible, these current students and all of the students before us, and our future students would not be possible without you, Mike. I'm excited to honor the hard work that you put into this place back in the early 80s, working with the legislators and securing funding for buildings. I've just been trying to do that, so I know how hard that is."
Paul Huddleston, Dean of Students
- Digital Services (Now ITS3) 1985-1987
"I look back on my time at Cascadia Tech in the ITS3 program with nothing but positive memories. The hands-on approach at Cascadia served me well in high school, and it is so great to be back here as the Dean of Students, giving back to the place that opened so many doors for me. A special thanks to Mike Bjur for being such a huge part of making it all possible – not just for me, but for literally tens of thousands of students in Southwest Washington!"
Chef Andrew McColley, CEC, CCE, Instructor
- Culinary Arts 1983-1985
"I can come back every morning and do for someone else what was done for me. It's so neat to be able to see this family tree and how we're all connected. As teachers, we just want to give back. For 30-whatever years, I've done this every day. Mike, it's an honor to see you today."
