As we wrap up the 2024–2025 school year, we take pride in the many accomplishments of our students and staff across all grade levels. This month’s Fast Five highlights the impact of our academic, extracurricular, and performing arts programs districtwide.

We celebrate the achievements of three Fairview High School seniors awarded the M. Frank and Margie Rudy STEM Scholarship and recognize Ava Davis, recipient of the H. Ronald and Nancy B. Pottorff Scholarship, who plans to pursue a degree in music education. We also share the news of senior Allie Stevens receiving a prestigious Phi Beta Kappa award for academic excellence and service.

We wish these students and the entire Class of 2025 great success as they grow, lead, and make a positive impact on the world around them.

At the elementary level, students engaged in real-world learning experiences, including a Roller Coaster Tycoon economics simulation in fourth grade. Twenty-six girls participated in the Girls on the Run program at Gilles-Sweet, which culminated in a 5K run in Akron. The girls gained confidence running or walking, and discussed empowerment and developing a healthy mindset.

These stories reflect the strength and value of a Fairview education. Thank you for your continued support of our students, staff, and schools.

Have a safe and restful summer.

Sincerely,

Keith Ahearn
Superintendent, Fairview Park City Schools

Gilles-Sweet Elementary fourth graders discovered that learning can be a wild and rewarding ride this past spring through a unique and interactive learning project.

Students took a creative leap into the worlds of science, economics, and entrepreneurship using the video game Roller Coaster Tycoon, thanks to a $290 grant from the Fairview Park Education Foundation.

Roller Coaster Tycoon is a classic simulation video game where players design and operate theme parks. Designing the wildest roller coaster is only one objective in the game and the project.

For 26 girls from Gilles-Sweet Elementary, crossing the finish line at the Girls on the Run 5K was more than just the end of a race. It was the culmination of a powerful journey focused on confidence, compassion, and community.

“The season starts in March and it’s a ten-week program,” Third Grade Teacher and Girls on the Run 5K Coach Caroline James explained. “It consists of 20 lessons. All of the lessons focus on well-being, including emotional, physical, and social parts, as well as friendships, self-esteem, and activating your inner star power.”
