Attendance Basics
School Year 2022-2023
Why do we need Learning Coaches to log attendance???
As an Arizona Online Instruction school (AOI) we have to have proof that your student is actually attending our school.
The state says that we need the parents to prove they are working and that is in the form of a log.
We also try to use the system to capture attendance but that can only be a helpful tool to go along with the logs and not what we rely on to prove attendance.
Therefore, we ask that parents post attendance for each day.
Typical schools count your DAY when you are on campus. Our virtual platform has to count minutes/hours.
You are never REQUIRED to enter attendance on a weekend or holiday....but you can if you want.
Internet Reimbursement
Yes, we MIGHT pay for part of your internet.
This information is always in your handbook.
Internet Service Provider (ISP) Reimbursement Policy
Families who meet all of the following ISP Reimbursement Requirements will be reimbursed at the rate of $12.95 per eligible month. Reimbursement checks are sent at the end of July.
Requirements:
- The student must be enrolled on the last day of the school year.
- The student must complete required in-person state standardized testing.
- The student must meet academic progress guidelines (Passing All Classes).
- The student must be eligible for free/reduced lunch as determined by the National School Lunch Program standardized form. This form MUST be submitted and filed in our system.
- The student must have 100% of the required attendance logged. (Not just some attendance posted every day but 100% of the required attendance.)
- Families who qualify will receive one check for the household for $12.95 per qualifying month no matter how many students are in the home.
How to get 100% of your required attendance??
The laws are different for Brick and Mortar Schools and for Arizona Online Instruction Schools.
We try extremely hard to make this as easy as possible for every parent to get 100% of their attendance logged. You can enter attendance 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. If you did not get enough attendance on one day you can add it to the next. If you are absent one day you can make up those hours the next day or over the span of the next week. As an online school we do not have absent days to report to the state because you can make up the time within the school year.
Goal: To have all of your attendance accounted for.
Example: If you are required to have 4 hours a day that works out to 20 hours a week. If you log 3 hours and 30 minutes every Monday instead of the 4 hours, you'd be missing 30 minutes every week. That builds up to roughly 114 hours in the school year which is roughly 28 days. You would NOT earn the ISP reimbursement because you'd be missing roughly 28 days or 114 hours of attendance.
Why am I receiveing notices about not logging in?
Our system is set up to send reminders when a student does not log into the OLS to work on assignments by 12pm (noon).
Sometimes you may have logged in and gone straight into a Class Connect but since the student did not log into a class the notice will still be sent out.
It is ideal to simply log all the way in and open a class or your plan before going into a class connect.
Absent 3+ days
LINK to report 3+ consecutive absent days:
If any student is missing or does not log in for 10 consecutive days of unexcused absences the school has to withdraw the student.
If you know your student is going to be absent you can enter a 0 for that day's attendance but again, you'll need to make up those hours and school work when your student returns. If you have a 0 entered it simply alerts us that you are well aware that your student is currently absent.
