A Note from the Principal
Dear Olmito Families,
Thank you, Ocelot families, for coming out to support our Trunk or Treat last week! We loved seeing our school community come together for an evening of literacy, laughter, and fun.
This school year is flying by, and we ask for your continued partnership in keeping our students focused and ready to learn. Middle-of-the-year testing for students in grades 2–5 begins the first week of November, so being at school, arriving on time, and actively participating in learning each day are key! Please help by ensuring your child gets plenty of rest, attends school regularly, and comes ready to give their best effort. Together, we can make every school day count!
Important Needs to Know Item & Upcoming Activities/Events:
1) ❤️ Red Ribbon Week ❤️
During the week of October 26-30, 2026, we will celebrate Red Ribbon Week at OES! This year's theme is "Make A Difference. Be A Hero. Stay Drug Free." We will take each day as a teaching moment to encourage healthy choices that lead to a successful future! Throughout the week, we will have various presentations and well as daily optional dress-up themes.
2) 📚 Character Parade - Friday, October 30 📚
This Friday morning, we will host our annual Book Character parade. All students who dress up on Friday MUST have either a book to go with their costume OR a printout of the book cover. They will not be able to walk in the parade without this and will also be asked to call home to change. This is NOT a Halloween dress up day. It is a day to celebrate Book Characters and all the adventures books can take us on. We will start by 8:30 AM, so be sure to have your Ocelot to school on time.
3) 6th Annual Biliteracy Night at Leo Aguilar Stadium Lawn
Please join us on Thursday, October 29 from 5:30 - 8:00 PM for the LFCISD 6th Annual Biliteracy Night. There will be booths from every school to visit and listen to great stories and enjoy the experiences they have created. Stop by the OES tent (Playing Loteria). There will be free food and other giveaways while supplies last. See you there, Ocelots!
4) 🏆 Imagine Math Fall Competition ➕➖✖️➗ (October 5-30, 2026)
Let’s go, Ocelots! Students are competing to see who can pass the most Imagine Math lessons! Each campus will have one lower-grade (K–2) winner and one upper-grade (3–5) winner. Across the district, two lower-grade classes and two upper-grade classes will also earn prizes for the most lessons passed!
We know OES can claim those top spots, but we need your help! Imagine Math is accessible from home, so encourage your child to practice and pass lessons after school and on weekends as well. Every lesson passed helps strengthen math skills and brings our Ocelots closer to a win!
5) 🩷 Wear Your Support, Ocelots! 🩷
Every Wednesday in October: Wear pink🩷 for Breast Cancer Awareness—show support and share hope!
✅🚨 Attendance & Tardies 🚨✅
Consistent attendance and punctuality are essential to student success. Every school day provides valuable opportunities for learning, building skills, and connecting with teachers and classmates. When students are absent or arrive late, they miss important instruction that can be difficult to make up. Please help your child arrive at school each day before the 7:50 AM instructional bell, ready to learn.
We are also excited to begin our attendance incentives for the school year!
- 💛 Monthly Grade-Level Incentives: Entire grade levels that meet their monthly attendance goal will earn a special prize or treat.
- 👕Perfect Attendance Dress-Down Passes: Students with perfect attendance during each three-week grading cycle will earn a dress-down pass. Please note that excessive tardies (3 or more in a 3 week cycle) may disqualify a student from receiving this reward.
- 🎉 Random Attendance Incentives: Throughout the year, we will surprise students who are present that day with special prizes, treats, or activities.
- 🔔 Beat the Bell” Prizes: Students who arrive on time—before the 7:50 AM instructional bell—may be randomly selected to receive a prize!
- 🎟️ Be Here to Win Prizes: Random students based on classroom number will win a certificate from local/fast food restaurants. (Must be present to win!)
Thank you for your continued support and partnership! 🐾
Sincerely,
Mrs. Jennifer Garcia
