Do you need bus transportation services?
Please read the following:
Dear Pioneer Families,
As we gear up for another wonderful school year, I wanted to share a few important updates and reminders about student transportation.
Last year, we introduced our new transportation routing software along with a Transportation Request questionnaire that was sent to families during the summer. The response from our families was fantastic, and the information you provided played a significant role in helping us build more accurate and efficient bus routes. Thank you to everyone who took the time to complete it!
This year, you'll once again receive an email with the subject line "Action Needed: School District of Westfield 2026-2027 Transportation Request." That email contains your student's Transportation Request questionnaire. We took the feedback we received from last year's rollout and made several improvements to the request process to make it even easier for families to complete.
We encourage every family to take a few moments to complete the questionnaire, even if your transportation plans haven't changed. Having the most up-to-date information allows us to begin planning routes earlier, improve efficiency, and better serve our students.
Please complete one Transportation Request for each student in your household. Each student receives their own request so we can accurately plan transportation based on individual needs.
If you're new to the Westfield School District, the Transportation Request is a short questionnaire designed to help us prepare for the upcoming school year. It allows families to confirm whether their student will need transportation, verify pickup and drop-off locations, and share any transportation-related information that may be important for our department to know before routes are finalized.
A few key things to note:
The address you submit on the Transportation Request must match the primary address listed in your student's Skyward account.
We understand that every family's transportation needs can be different. Whether your student has multiple pickup or drop-off locations, split custody arrangements, daycare transportation, or any other transportation-related information you'd like us to know, you'll have the opportunity to include those details directly on this year's Transportation Request.
Please do not reply directly to the Transportation Request email. It is sent from a no-reply email address, and responses will not be received by our department.
If you have any questions or concerns, experience difficulty completing the Transportation Request, or need assistance, please don't hesitate to contact me by phone or email. I'm happy to help!
As we get closer to the start of the school year and routes are finalized, you will receive another email from the same no-reply email address with your student's bus stop location and scheduled pickup and drop-off times.
Last year, we identified an issue that caused some pickup and drop-off times to display incorrectly in a small number of notifications. We've worked closely with our software provider to address those issues and are committed to making this year's communication as accurate as possible.
If you receive your transportation information and something doesn't seem right—for example, if your student's scheduled pickup time appears to be after the school day begins or another detail doesn't seem to make sense—please don't hesitate to contact me directly by phone or email. I'll be happy to review the information with you and answer any questions you may have.
In addition to the email notification, your student's bus driver will also be reaching out before the start of the school year to help confirm transportation details and answer any route-specific questions.
As we continue to evaluate and refine our transportation system, some bus routes and stop locations may change from year to year. Our goal is to provide safe, reliable, and efficient transportation while making the best use of district resources.
Each summer, we carefully review routes based on student ridership, road conditions, route timing, and overall efficiency. While some changes may result in longer or shorter ride times for individual students, every decision is made with student safety, consistency, and responsible stewardship of district resources in mind.
As a reminder, we ask parents and students to take a few moments to review the Rules of Conduct for All Bus Riders, which can be found on the District website. Riding the school bus is a privilege, and the school bus is considered an extension of the classroom. Students are expected to follow all safety rules and directions from the bus driver at all times. These expectations help ensure a safe environment for everyone on the bus and allow drivers to focus their full attention on the roadway. Failure to follow the Rules of Conduct may result in disciplinary action, including the loss of transportation privileges.
We're always looking for caring, dependable individuals to join our Transportation team! If you or someone you know has ever considered becoming a school bus driver, we'd love to hear from you. School bus drivers play an important role in the success of our students each day, and we provide the training to help you earn the necessary licenses and endorsements. It's a rewarding opportunity to serve our students and community while enjoying a flexible schedule. Please contact the Transportation Department or visit the District website for more information.
Thank you for your patience and understanding as we continue working to provide the best transportation service possible for our students and families. If you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to reach out.
Respectfully,
Kim Werden
