Universal Assessment & Screening
Lewisville ISD Gifted & Talented Services
Lewisville ISD routinely administers universal assessments and screenings to identify students with exceptional ability or potential at specific grade levels. Results are used to determine those students who meet criteria for additional evaluations related to gifted/talented (G/T) services.
Students identified as gifted/talented in the U.S. make up approximately 6-10% of the total student population, so by its very nature, only a small portion of students will be eligible for services.
UNIVERSAL EXPERIENCES - GRADES K-2
Campus G/T Facilitators push in to all K-2 classrooms and collaborate with teachers to lift the level of thinking and challenge for all students. They present planned experiences and deliver lessons throughout the year that incorporate gifted characteristics to ensure multiple opportunities for gifted behaviors to emerge. Data collected is used to identify students who meet criteria for a gifted/talented (G/T) services referral.
ONLINE UNIVERSAL ASSESSMENT - GRADE 2
Online universal assessment takes place during the fall semester for all grade 2 students. This replaces the ability assessment phase for gifted/talented (G/T) qualification that typically takes place after a formal parent or staff referral in grades K-5.
