Thank You for an Exceptional School Year!
When we started this school year, we set out to build upon our momentum by keeping student learning at the heart of everything we do, engaging our community, and strengthening our safety measures.
I am thrilled to report that we realized many remarkable achievements this year, including the following:
- Launched the Superintendent’s Student Advisory Council (SSAC), giving high school students a direct seat at the decision-making table to ensure student voice remains central to our work.
- Hosted the District 300: Together for Tomorrow Community Workshops and Open Houses, gathering vital input from parents, staff, and community members to shape the next steps of our Master Facility Plan.
- Earned Advanced Placement (AP) School Honor Roll awards at all three high schools, reflecting our commitment to expanding college readiness and rigorous academic opportunities. Hampshire High School earned a Silver Award, while Dundee-Crown and Jacobs high schools earned Bronze Awards.
- Demonstrated strong academic progress on the Illinois Report Card, with 25 of our schools earning Exemplary or Commendable designations, maintaining a nearly 96% graduation rate, and achieving an 84.1% 9th Grade On Track rate – our highest since the pandemic.
- Strengthened district-wide safety and security by implementing the “I Love U Guys” Foundation standard response protocols, ensuring a common language and clear actions for safety situations.
- Received School Board Governance Recognition from the Illinois Association of School Boards for our Board of Education's effective governance, and earned the Meritorious Budget Award from the Association of School Business Officials International for the 20th consecutive year.
- Honored high academic achievement, including the recognition of three juniors, one from each of our high schools, who earned perfect scores on the ACT exam.
I wish you a safe, restful, and joyful Summer Break!

Jacobs Senior Presents at Symposium Hosted at Elgin Community College
Congratulations to Jacobs High School senior and dual credit student Bree Abel, who presented last month at the Honors & CURIC Symposium at Elgin Community College!
The symposium provides an opportunity for students to highlight the research they have completed with guidance from an ECC faculty mentor.
Bree’s presentation was titled “Analysis of Changes in Stomata Density Within Epipremnum Aureum (Pothos) When Provided With a Multivariable Environment to Simulate Impacts from Climate Change.”
Her ECC faculty mentor was Mr. Frederick Vogt.

Jacobs High School Senior Contributes to Published Scientific Study
Congratulations to Jacobs High School senior Charlie Yang, who contributed to a recently published study in the scientific journal Cortex!
Charlie is listed as the second author of the study, titled “Influences of mental imagery at different stages of Atkinson's and Shiffrin's modal model: Visual imagery is associated with enhanced iconic memory performance.”
It was during his junior year at Jacobs that Charlie designed and implemented the original version of the study – work that was undertaken as part of his AP Research project in Ms. Emily Lacey’s class, with additional support from Jacobs media specialist Ms. Allison Lichtenheld.
After submitting his original study to College Board, Charlie chose to build upon his work under the guidance of expert adviser Dr. Merlin Monzel from the University of Bonn in Germany, which ultimately led to the published version.
Charlie is credited for his contributions to the study’s writing, methodology, and investigation.
Jacobs High School Student Presentation Highlights 3D-Printed Projects
Congratulations to Jacobs High School juniors Alaa Lachhab, Luke Sanders, and Jeff Wines, who – prior to the end of the school year – presented 3D-printed projects they created to Huntley Community Engagement Coordinator Steve Skurski and Huntley police Officer Jerry Keppler!
The projects included a smaller replica of the Huntley gateway sign and a large-scale replica of a Huntley police badge.
“Working with my classmates was fun,” said Luke of the project, noting he would like to pursue civil engineering as a career, where the skills he has been developing would be applicable. “Learning the software is pretty nice.”
The students created the projects while in their Intro to Solid Modeling and 3D Printing class with Mr. Fernando Medina.
Eastview Elementary School Raises Funds for Pediatric Cancer Foundation
Congratulations to Eastview Elementary School, which recently raised more than $2,500 for the Bear Necessities Pediatric Cancer Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting those battling pediatric cancer.
As part of the annual school fundraiser, students, staff, family members, and local first responders completed a group walk on the track near Eastview earlier this month to raise awareness for their cause.
Bear Necessities was founded in memory of former Eastview student Barrett “Bear” Krupa, who died after a hard-fought battle with Wilms tumor, a form of pediatric cancer.
Liberty Elementary Students Gain Knowledge Through Chick-Hatching Experience
Before the school year concluded, Liberty Elementary School second graders hatched chicks in their classrooms.
“I like it!” said student Hailley Becerra (pictured second from left) from Mr. Alex Odom’s class, who confidently explained how the chicks had been breaking out of their shells.
“They use their egg tooth because they can’t move their body ‘cause they’re squished up,” she said.
Through the chick hatching experience, students learned about life cycles, built related vocabulary, and practiced how to handle the chicks safely.
They earned the opportunity to hatch the chicks after writing persuasive essays.
