Curriculum Update
P16: Teaching and Learning - DECEMBER 2024
What's Going On?
We thought it might be helpful to document where we are with certain curriculum projects for the year. While this newsletter is not exhaustive, it hopefully provides a snapshot view of instructionally related items being tackled by our amazing teachers, support staff, clinical staff, and leaders.
Math
All of our K-6 sites have adopted the Everyday Math program. An implementation guide has been distributed. Additional PD is planned for March. April Seeley is coordinating this work with us.
AP content leads are:
K-2 Math - Erich Dittmar
3-5 Math - Anna Harasamowicz
6+ - Alison Cantu
All of our classroom teachers should have access to the digital parts of Everyday Math. If you do not, please reach out to Toby Gardner and cc your principal.
ELA
We will be relaunching this committee in December.
We are encouraging both new and returning members to join the committee
Initial leadership meetings have taken place, and more detailed plans regarding the process for selecting a curriculum will be developed/shared as we move into December.
LETRS
We are exploring options to train additional teachers in this program.
Unique Learning
We hosted two sessions for Unique Learning in October -- one for those new to Unique and one for those experience with Unique. Positive reviews were noted!

SEL- Second Step
All of our special education sites now have access to the SEL curriculum - Second Step.
All clinicians were trained on October Conference Day
A copy of the presentation that was used: sstep-hs-implementation-leader-orientation (1) - Copy.pptx is now available. Pay close attention to slide 15, "Implementation in Action," as this provides a rough timeline. We are collecting feedback from clinicians.
Current status (as of today)
o RJEC- clinicians already implemented; working on fidelity
o NEC- clinicians worked on adapting lessons to fit the needs of students; all found lessons appropriate for their students;
o FLSS and WEC- all found three lessons they are going to pilot; at the end, Dr Newby has been assisting with vertical alignment of themes from middle school to high school so the whole school can focus on themes pretraining to Middle School SS and High School SS
o MEC/FLES- was just recently ordered for
o PTECH-TBD
Our March Superintendent's Conference Day will include PD for Second Step. They will be training teachers for elementary, middle, and high school. The expectation at all sites is that clinicians do two lessons per week using the second step curriculum. There are a couple of sites where teachers are then expected to use the supplementary activities during a third class period.
This is our learning year with Second Step will full implementation for Fall 2025.
Thank you, Chris Singer, Dr. Jessica Newby and Dr. Tamara Jones, for your leadership in this area.
