Dear 6th Grade Parents and Guardians,

I hope this message finds you well! With Election Day this Tuesday, please remember that students have the day off from school. In Social Studies, students are learning about Hammurabi's Code, but with Election Week upon us, we’ll also touch on the significance of voting and the role it plays in both local and national governance. Please take a moment to discuss the importance of this right with your child, reinforcing how each vote contributes to the well-being of our community and country. Together, we can help nurture compassionate, well-informed citizens.

A few other important updates for this week:

  • iReady for Math: Please check in with your child about their iReady minutes. Each student should be completing 40 minutes of iReady math practice each week.

  • ELA Progress: In ELA, some students are working in iReady, others are using Lexia, and many are completing assignments in StudySync. Ask your child what they’re working on, and let me know if you have any questions about their ELA assignments.

  • Science Lab: This week, students will have the opportunity to dissect an eye as part of our science curriculum. Encourage them to share what they’re learning in this hands-on experience!

Please also remind your child to bring their binder and notebooks to school each day to stay organized across all subjects.

Let’s make this first week of November a great learning experience for your child!

If you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to reach out. Please email me at brunsone@district65.net.

Best Regards,

Ms. Brunson

"Students in Mr. Sommer's science classes have been researching different eye diseases as part of our vision unit. Students individually researched a disease using there eyepads (get it eye pads...hahaha) and then worked together with 2-3 other students to create a visual so they can present the information to the rest of the class. Presentations will begin next week and the posters will be hung up around the school."

Black SonRISE Week 3 Recap Black SonRISE Week 3 Recap

Greetings Fellow Parents and Caregivers,

On the eve of the most important election in our nation's history, our session today was filled with intensity and energetic discussion. We shared an overview of how elected officials impact everything from how many children we have to where we go to school. This helped us emphasize the importance of voting.

The Risers also learned that they live in the only city in America in which elected officials developed a reparations program. Some of the Risers shared their own experiences and stories of discrimination.

I speak for the other facilitating dads when I tell you that the Risers' insightful comments and questions impressed us.

Next week we will build on our theme of community engagement when the Risers discuss the importance of being an educated member of the community. Two amazing teachers will share tips on how to perform better on MAP tests and in school generally.

As always, thank you for trusting us with your children.

If you haven't done so already, be sure that this Tuesday, November 5th, you...

VOTE!!! VOTE!!! VOTE!!!! VOTE!!! VOTE!!!
