Growing Together @ STL

Principal's Message
Dear Families,
As we move through another busy and joyful week of learning, I am grateful for the strong sense of community that fills our school each day. In our classrooms, hallways, and playgrounds, we continue to see our students living out our Catholic values through kindness, curiosity, and respect for one another.
This week, our faith reminds us of the importance of gratitude. We are called to recognize God’s presence in the ordinary moments of our lives—through a helping hand, a thoughtful word, or the perseverance shown when learning something new. Our students have done a wonderful job demonstrating these virtues, and it is a joy to witness their growth not only academically, but spiritually as well.
Thank you to our teachers and staff for their dedication and care, and to our parents for your ongoing partnership and support. Together, we are nurturing children who are confident learners, compassionate friends, and faithful disciples.
As always, please keep our school community in your prayers. May God continue to bless our families and guide us in all that we do.
Wishing you a peaceful and grace-filled week.
Blessings,
Kristie Phelan
Principal, St Luke
School Fee Payment - Overdue
We are reaching out with a gentle reminder regarding outstanding school, activity and option fees for your child.
These fees help cover the cost of field trips, materials, and enrichment opportunities that enhance students’ learning experiences. At this time, payment of these fees is required in order for students to continue participating in field trips and optional programs.
We understand that financial circumstances can change, and we want to be supportive. If you are experiencing difficulty or have questions about your account, please do not hesitate to contact the school office. We are happy to discuss options or assist in any way we can.
Thank you for your attention to this matter and for your continued support of our school community. We truly value your partnership and want every student to have the opportunity to participate fully in school activities.
We have many wonderful oppportunities coming in this new year!
Evidence of Learning Information
As we continue our school year together under our theme Growing Together in Christ’s Love, we remain grateful for the trust you place in us and for the partnership we share in supporting your child’s learning and well-being. We are writing to share an update regarding student assessment and reporting for the remainder of this school year.
Due to adjustments being made across the system, Elk Island Catholic Schools will not be issuing a mid-year (January) report card for students. Although there will not be a formal report card at this time, please be assured that teaching, learning, and assessment remain a strong focus in every classroom.
Evidence of Learning
Ongoing assessment is essential to student growth. Teachers will continue to gather evidence of learning through classroom activities, assignments, observations, and conversations. This evidence reflects both the process and product of student learning and helps teachers respond to each student’s individual strengths and needs.
In place of a January report card, families will receive a January Evidence of Learning portfolio with the intention to provide meaningful insight into your child’s progress, strengths, and next steps.
Looking Ahead
The redesigned report card will be fully implemented in June. This adjusted timeline allows staff the time needed for professional learning and thoughtful preparation, ensuring the report card is implemented well and clearly communicates student learning to families.
Together, may we continue to nurture each child’s learning and faith as we Grow Together Christ’s love. If you have questions about your child’s progress, we encourage you to reach out to your child’s teacher.

Faith Integration
Children's Sacramental Preparation
Sacramental Preparation at OLPH. Our fall sessions are starting up this month and the children will celebrate these sacraments in December. (We also have support for families who wish to have their children Baptized, to "open the door" to these other sacraments.
Our parish is very grateful for the partnership of our Catholic Schools in the faith formation of our young people and their families! A personal email from the school Principal, the faith leader of the school, could make a special impact on families and encourage them to bring their children here to the Church for their sacraments. It could also be extremely helpful if the Grade 2-4 Homeroom Teachers would personally send parents a message about First Communion & Reconciliation for their children, and if Grade 6-8 Teachers could do so for the Sacrament of Confirmation. Thank you for everything you do!
