School Releases at 12:35pm

From the Principal From the Principal

Happy Wednesday Cherrydale Families!

Spring Break is just around the corner! There will be no school April 6–10, and our building will be closed during this time.

We hope this break provides a wonderful opportunity for rest, relaxation, and meaningful time with family and friends. It’s also a great chance for students to recharge and return ready for a strong finish to the school year.

We look forward to welcoming everyone back on Monday, April 13, refreshed and ready for the final stretch. There is so much to look forward to in the months ahead, and we are excited to continue the great learning and growth happening across our school.

Wishing all of our students and families a safe, restful, and enjoyable Spring Break!

Warm Regards,

Christine Firth, Principal

JBLM's BigFoot Brass Band

Cherrydale had the exciting opportunity to welcome JBLM's BigFoot Brass Band, one of the talented groups within America’s I Corps Band, for a fun and energetic all-school assembly.

The musicians wowed students and staff with their lively performance, showcasing a variety of songs that had everyone clapping along and smiling.

It was a wonderful experience that brought our school together and highlighted the power of music to connect and inspire. We are so grateful to the BigFoot Brass Band for visiting and making our day so memorable!

Spring HiCap testing Grades 1-4

A note from the Highly Capable Program teacher, Mrs. Hannah Engstrom:

Every Spring there is a window of opportunity for 1st-4th grade students to apply for the district’s Highly Capable Program. Any family is welcome to apply. Students who qualify may have advanced academic skills, display an abundance of creativity, or are amazing thinkers. Application forms are found on the district’s website on this page: Highly Capable Program or you may request a paper copy from your child’s classroom teacher.

Applications are due April 17, 2026. Evaluation and testing will be completed in late April and early May. If you have any questions about the program, feel free to contact me via Parent Square or email at hengstrom@steilacoom.k12.wa.us.

Help Keep Plastic Film out of Landfills

From now through May 1, students can drop off plastic film for recycling in the designated box located in the office.

All the plastic film we collect during the drive will be turned into Trex decking!

Plastic film must be clean and dry.

If you and your child are interested in learning more, this info sheet explains what plastic film is and why it’s hard to recycle, and this video shows a ton of examples.

Mini Maestros: Peter and the Wolf

Our students recently explored the story and sounds of Peter and the Wolf in music class—learning how different instruments represent each character. If you child(ren) would like to hear the music performed live, consider attending Mini Maestros: Peter and the Wolf April 26th @ 2:30pm, University of Puget Sound Schneebeck Concert Hall.

Earth Day 2026 - Cheetah Walk Fundraiser

Every year (since 2004), in celebration of Earth Day, students and staff at Cherrydale work together to collect donations in order to help the Cheetah Conservation Fund (CCF) in Namibia, Africa. Sadly, cheetahs are an endangered species.

Check out the Cheetah Conservation Fund’s website at cheetah.org. We sponsor a cheetah named Rocket who lives with many other cheetahs at the CCF!

In honor of Earth Day this year, we will have an online fundraiser and money collection envelopes for all students. All proceeds will be donated to the CCF. We hope to exceed the total of $1,121.70 from last year’s fundraising

  • Online donations will be accepted from April 2nd through April 27th.
  • Cherrydale students will bring home a CCF money envelope soon that can be used to collect coins, cash, checks made out to Cherryvale Primary School (memo for CCF fundraiser)
  • The grade level with the most donations will receive a bonus recess!

On Earth Day, Wednesday April 22nd, students and staff will walk around our playground nature trail while listening to music and wearing their favorite “cheetah gear” clothes and paper cheetah headbands. Students will receive a packet of flower seeds to take home and plant.

Cherrydale Cheetahs helping cheetahs – a great way to show we are PeaceBuilders who “Help Others”. Happy Earth Day!
